About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse, Infusion RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Infusion RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: M-TH Hours per Shift: 8am-5pm (no lunch break) or 8am-5:30pm with a 30-minute lunch break Experience: 2 years License: Current, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required. Certifications: BLS and ACLS Must-Have: Current Alaska nursing license Flu vaccine Description: The Registered Nurse for Infusion Services provides comprehensive nursing care to infusion patients. The role includes collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Facilitates and oversees infusion patient referrals for tests and treatments to ensure continuity of care. Maintains, reviews, and documents pertinent information in the patient’s chart. Coordinates and oversees appointment scheduling for infusion patients. Posts patient test and examination results, communicating with referring providers and infusion patients. Observes and reports infusion patient conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, immunizations, and procedures. Records all pertinent information in the patient’s chart. Assists with supervision of clinic staff, providing direction and guidance. Participates in staff development activities to maintain professional knowledge and licensure. Assesses and prepares the needs of each infusion patient. Ensures prior authorization is initiated as needed for infusion services. Administers specialty IV fluids via peripherally or centrally placed catheters. Uses infusion order sets as prescribed by the patient’s referring specialist or primary care provider. Maintains central venous catheters (CVC), peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), and other IV access devices. Identifies, assesses, and diagnoses problems through patient assessment. Prepares for infusion patients prior to administration by reviewing orders and communicating effectively. Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about post-discharge care programs. Initiates patient care meetings with the health care team to review care plans as needed. Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. Provides guidance and direction to ensure quality patient care. Keeps current on advances in oncology and infusion nursing care by participating in educational programs. Oversees direct patient care according to established nursing protocols and physician orders. Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, and safety precautions to initiate appropriate interventions. Provides safe and effective infusion services and follow-up care after patient discharge. Supports and maintains a commitment to all patients and visitors. Adheres to all principles of confidentiality and patient care. Complies with all professional and ethical behavior standards in healthcare. Participates in departmental staff meetings, quality management activities, and educational programs. Complies with all policies and procedures. Knowledge of regulatory documentation requirements and ability to accurately document clinical data is essential. Knowledge of disease processes and their effects, side effects, and complications is required. Skills in operating specialized medical devices and effective communication are needed. Ability to independently operate IV infusion pumps and other medical equipment is necessary. Manages high patient volumes and multiple patients simultaneously. Utilizes critical thinking skills and functions independently in decision-making. Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and reacts promptly in emergencies. Provides good customer service with a patient-centered approach. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical demands include talking or hearing, standing, walking, sitting, using hands, and occasionally lifting/moving 50 lbs.
