Behavioral Health Counselor-MS LicensedPosition Title: Counselor – Behavioral Health (MS, Licensed)Location: Bloomington HospitalShift: Full-Time DayPosition Overview: The Counselor provides comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services, including individual, family, and group counseling. This role involves facilitating patient involvement in treatment, conducting psychosocial assessments, and supporting emotional, social, and financial well-being. The Counselor also plays a critical role in crisis intervention, discharge planning, and acting as a liaison for protective services cases involving abuse, neglect, guardianship, foster care, and mental health placements. The position emphasizes collaboration with healthcare providers and community agencies to ensure safe, effective, and holistic patient care.Key Responsibilities:Facilitate patient engagement in treatment and educational activities.Conduct psychosocial assessments and deliver therapeutic interventions for patients and families.Assist with utilization review and discharge planning, under supervision.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and resources.Serve as a primary contact for cases involving child and adult abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and protective services, coordinating with relevant agencies.Provide mental health assessments upon physician referral and support crisis intervention efforts.Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and support daily activities and programming.Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.Document clinical activities accurately in electronic medical records.Develop and foster strong relationships with community partners, law enforcement, schools, and social service agencies.Qualifications & Requirements:Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.3–5 years of relevant health care, mental health, or community experience.Current licensure in Indiana as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP.Certification in crisis intervention may be required; BLS certification may also be required.Knowledge of evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT), crisis de-escalation, and legal mandates for protective services.Understanding of the impact of disease processes and human behavior in psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.Familiarity with principles of growth and development across the lifespan.Ability to create a safe, therapeutic environment and instruct on daily activities.Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Strong relationship-building skills with community, healthcare, law enforcement, and social agencies.About IU Health: IU Health is Indiana's largest and most comprehensive healthcare system, with nearly 40,000 team members, 16 hospitals, and $8.64 billion in operating revenue.
