Appointment Coordinator | Orthopedic Surgery Scheduler Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as an Appointment Coordinator specializing in orthopedic and podiatry surgery scheduling. This role is essential in supporting the Orthopedic Clinic by managing surgery case schedules, maintaining clear communication within the department, and preparing patient charges efficiently. Key Responsibilities Schedule surgical procedures accurately, including date, time, surgeon, anesthesia, and pre-operative interviews. Provide courteous and precise scheduling instructions to physician office staff. Manage daily surgical case volumes and assign procedures to appropriate operating rooms. Maintain accountability, work independently, and adapt to changes while meeting attendance and punctuality standards. Screen and prioritize incoming calls, directing them to the correct personnel. Continuously seek process improvements and maintain high attention to detail and accuracy. Obtain pre-authorization and verify eligibility and benefits for scheduled procedures, coordinating with business offices and hospital departments. Enter orders into the EMR system as directed by providers. Support clinic operations by rooming patients and guiding them through the intake process. Educate patients on pre-operative procedures, including clearance, lab work, and imaging requirements. Education Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program, practical nursing program, or medical assistant program is required. Experience At least one year of experience in appointment scheduling, preferably within a medical environment, is necessary. Certifications and Licenses Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST/CFA), or Certified Medical Assistant credentials are required. Must hold a valid license or certificate in good standing. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory. Mental and Physical Requirements The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively while working as part of a team. The role requires sustained close mental and visual attention, with approximately 85% of the time spent in sedentary activities. Ability to lift or carry up to 10 pounds is necessary.
