Sanctions Compliance Professional (Attorney or Non-Attorney)

Epiq Counsel is partnering with a Fortune 100 company in a highly regulated industry to identify an experienced Sanctions Professional to support a high-priority global trade compliance initiative. This role will focus on conducting complex sanctions due diligence, investigations, and transaction reviews involving customers, vendors, projects, and counterparties across multiple jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience navigating sanctions matters involving the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union, with particular emphasis on the energy, oil & gas, and export-driven sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct sanctions due diligence and risk assessments involving customers, vendors, end users, vessels, aircraft, projects, transactions, and business partners.
• Perform detailed research utilizing sanctions screening and investigative platforms.
• Analyze findings and prepare concise, recommendation-focused memoranda for senior legal and compliance stakeholders.
• Lead sanctions investigations from intake through resolution.
• Assess sanctions exposure related to Russia-connected and other high-risk jurisdictions.
• Review and analyze proposed transactions involving global trade, exports, and cross-border commercial activities.
• Develop practical, business-oriented solutions within applicable regulatory frameworks.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, sales, and business stakeholders to resolve complex sanctions issues efficiently.
• Support accelerated review efforts related to a high-volume sanctions diligence backlog.
• Present findings and recommendations to senior sanctions leadership for review and decision-making.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar license in good standing; OR
• Significant sanctions compliance experience as a Sanctions Analyst, Compliance Analyst, Global Trade Compliance Professional, or similar role.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of sanctions compliance, global trade compliance, investigations, or regulatory diligence experience.
• 5+ years experience conducting sanctions due diligence and screening involving: OFAC, U.S. Treasury regulations, U.K. sanctions regimes, EU sanctions regimes
• Direct sanctions experience in the Oil & Gas, Energy, Industrial Manufacturing industry.
• Demonstrated experience drafting written legal, compliance, or investigative analyses and recommendations.
• Experience managing complex sanctions investigations with limited precedent.
• Strong understanding of customer due diligence, KYC, counterparty screening, and beneficial ownership reviews.
• Ability to independently assess risk and formulate recommendations.
• Experience supporting exporters, multinational corporations, energy companies, industrial organizations, or similarly regulated businesses.
• Exceptional written communication and analytical skills.
• Epiq Counsel partners with industry-leading clients in support of their sophisticated interim talent needs. Must be interested in practicing in an alternative, fixed-term legal services model.

Strongly Preferred

• Familiarity with: Kharon, Clearview, Sayari Graph, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, World-Check, LexisNexis Risk Solutions
• Experience balancing regulatory requirements with commercial business objectives.
