Practice Assistant - Specialty Clinics 8a - 430p

Responsibilities Reports to The Director of Outpatient Clinics or Practice Manager. The Practice Assistant encompasses both administrative support and medical assistant support to the outpatient clinics, delivering the highest quality service to patients while contributing to the smooth functioning of practice operations. Provide problem-solving, teamwork, strong communication, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and customer service skills to support clinic operations. Maintain an organized, clean, and professional physical environment in the clinic. Act as a liaison between patients, referring physicians, other hospital services, external customers and the physicians. Assist with patient preparation for office visits and support physicians and department operations to ensure high-quality patient care. Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, and assist with chart preparation in advance of visits in collaboration with co-workers. Performs vital signs and weights as necessary; call in prescriptions to pharmacies as ordered by physicians. Manage patient scheduling, check-in/check-out, co-pay collection, patient follow-up, phone calls, billing, medical records, supply management, and correspondence. Process referrals and submit prior authorizations for imaging studies as needed. Ensure clinic operations are effective and maintain a professional appearance and environment. Respond to patient inquiries and resolve issues by collaborating with providers and staff; prioritize patient satisfaction. Report ongoing problems to the director and assist with routine administrative tasks such as mail, fax, and printer operations. Assist patients as needed (e.g., wheelchairs, assistance with mobility, etc.). Keep exam rooms clean and stocked with supplies; organize daily department schedules. Assist physicians with EKGs, EMGs, casting, and urine dipstick testing as needed per specialty. Enter billing charges into Meditech and CCC; compile reports and scan information into the electronic medical record. Inventory and order office and clinic supplies. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent problem-solving skills Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple tasks Ability to maintain high level of professionalism and strict confidentiality Understanding of medical terminology and ability to handle a heavy and diverse workload in an active healthcare environment Computer skills (e.g., Outlook/Meditech, Caretracker, etc.) 1 year of Medical Assisting and one year of medical clerical support preferred Medical assisting certification preferred Competencies Written Communications: Ability to read and write in English to understand basic safety instructions, follow directions, and communicate with patients, families and staff. Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English and communicate effectively with patients, families and staff. Knowledge: Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; specialized knowledge not required. Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees and external contacts to offer ideas and deliver services. Customer Service: Ability to provide high-level customer service in a professional, service-oriented and respectful manner, using active listening and problem solving; remain calm in stressful situations. Physical Nature Of The Job Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally. Pay Range $21.00 - $28.26 The pay range listed is the base hourly wage the organization expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation is determined by factors including seniority, education, training, experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, and applicable laws. Compensation may exceed the base rate due to shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other applicable pay practices.
