Maintenance WorkerAlamo Heights, TX, USA43573 per yearHourlyFull TimeTMRS 2:1 @ 7%, Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD, AD&D, and Life paid 100% for employeeJOB SUMMARY:This position is assigned to the Department of Public Works and is responsible for the provision of a wide variety of City services related to streets, parks, facility maintenance, solid waste and utilities under the general direction of a Crew Leader, Equipment Operator or a Public Works or Utilities Superintendent.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Operates tractors, mowers, trimmers, trucks and other vehicles, equipment and toolsPerforms minor and preventative maintenance on equipmentPerforms tree and vegetation removal and trimming as needed, also maintains chainsaws in a ready state for use as neededPicks up solid waste and recycled materials, including loading into collection trucks, on assigned collection routesPerforms maintenance and repairs on water and wastewater systems as directedPerforms minor and preventative maintenance in City facilitiesReads water meters, if required, for verification of readingsPerforms turn ons/ turnoffs and other customer service tasks as neededMaintains assigned vehicle(s) in a clean, safe and operable conditionAdvises when tire replacement or repairs are needed on all vehiclesResponds to after-hours calls whether scheduled or notFor CDL holders, may occasionally drive on assigned collection routes on which household garbage, trash, recyclable materials and brush are collected as well as transport solid waste to disposal site.Assist other departments as directedPerforms other duties as assignedOTHER DUTIES:Please note that this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:One year experience in equipment operation and minor repair and preventative maintenance of equipmentOne year of general construction experienceHigh school diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not requiredLICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:Valid Texas Class C driver license; Texas Class B CDL is desirableKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of safety practices and requirements of the jobAbility to work well with othersKnowledge of operation of tools and power equipmentPractical use of a rod and level preferredPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basisVisual acuity, speech and hearing, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate tools and equipment associated with the jobWorking conditions are in a field environmentMust be able to pass a drug and/or alcohol screenThis class specification is not an employment agreement or contract.
