Human Resources Generalist – Temp-to-Perm

Salary: $70,000–$80,000 per year ($33.65–$38.46/hour)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, On-Site
Hours: Flexible — 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, or similar
Position: Temp-to-Perm

Location: Paterson NJ

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our team in a hands-on, customer service-focused role. This position will support employees and managers across all areas of HR, including payroll, recruiting, benefits, employee relations, onboarding, compliance, safety, and HRIS administration .

The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Most Important Qualifications

• Payroll processing experience – required
• Previous experience working with recruiting/staffing agencies
• Strong knowledge of employee benefits
• Bilingual - English and Spanish
• 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience
• Experience with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and HR administration
• HRIS experience; Paycom experience is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification is a plus

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day HR support and customer service to employees and managers
• Recruit, interview, and assist with hiring qualified candidates
• Post positions, review resumes, screen candidates, prepare offer letters, and coordinate onboarding
• Conduct new hire orientations and support training initiatives
• Process weekly payroll accurately and on time
• Assist with medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and other benefit programs
• Process benefit enrollments and terminations and assist with leave and accommodation requests
• Handle employee relations, disciplinary matters, investigations, and performance management
• Maintain accurate employee records and files in accordance with legal requirements
• Ensure new hires complete employment eligibility verification through E-Verify
• Maintain job descriptions, job titles, and classifications within the HRIS
• Support employee engagement initiatives and surveys
• Provide training and guidance to employees and managers regarding HR policies and procedures
• Assist with workers’ compensation claims and OSHA reporting
• Help develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and programs
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
• Support workplace safety programs and maintain a safe work environment
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and help improve HR processes and efficiency
• Perform other HR-related duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
• 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience
• Payroll, benefits, recruiting, and employee relations experience required
• Experience supporting a broad range of HR functions, ideally in a small HR department or as a primary HR resource
• Experience working with staffing/recruiting agencies strongly preferred
• Paycom experience is a plus
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification is a plus
