Bioinformatics Analyst III - Laboratory of Dr. Kuo-Fen Lee

The Lee Group in the Peptide Biology Lab at the Salk Institute focuses on understanding the logic of brain disease using an integrative and whole brain network approach, including graph theory, multi-scale and multi-modal techniques such as single neuron barcoding for BRICseq, multiomic sn-RNAseq and sn-ATACseq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, machine learning, circuit mapping, in vivo physiological recording, optogenetics, large-scale behavioral screening, stem cells, and gene editing in non-rodent species. This position will work closely with the PI to analyze multiomics and multi-modal data, maintain and develop analysis pipelines, and integrate new genomics tools. Key Responsibilities Research Design and Presentation Contribute to project inception, experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Assist with preparing data for publications, grant applications, posters, and presentations. Present results verbally and visually in meetings and conferences. Maintain detailed lab notebooks documenting experimental details and results. Bioinformatics Analysis Analyze genomics and next-generation sequencing data (e.g., RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, Hi-C, single-cell RNA-Seq). Collaborate with researchers across labs and backgrounds. Work independently on informatics projects under supervision. Utilize published pipelines, scripts, and tools for large datasets. Operate in high-performance computing environments. Stay updated on advances in bioinformatics and genomics. Advanced Bioinformatics Analysis Keep abreast of scientific advances and develop new tools and pipelines. Design, code, and present novel analysis algorithms and tools. Present findings at meetings and conferences under supervision. Guide Bioinformatics Projects Mentor interns and junior analysts, aiding troubleshooting and project management. Support interns' success through insights and assistance. Participate in internal presentations and ensure compliance with research standards. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Minimum Requirements BS in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field; Master’s or PhD preferred. 6+ years experience with large -omics datasets analysis. Programming skills in Python, R, Bash, etc. Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment. Experience with genome-wide datasets from sequencing experiments. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degrees (Master’s/PhD). Experience with Linux HPC environments, machine learning, and computational modeling. Knowledge of biology, especially aging, cancer, immunology, neurobiology. Experience with multi-omics and integrative analyses. Cloud computing experience (AWS/GCP). Contributions to experimental design and data interpretation.
