Compensation and Benefits

Radiology candidates who accept a part‑time or full‑time position with University Hospitals are eligible for: Competitive hourly rate, Additional Compensation of $7.25 per hour for Cleveland Medical Center Only, Enhanced PTO for candidates with 5+ years of relevant work experience, Sign‑on bonus ($10,000 for full‑time or $5,000 for part‑time), Tuition reimbursement after six months, Free Parking.

Position Summary

The Special Procedures Tech 1 is responsible for performing radiographic procedures in compliance with hospital safety standards, including ALARA, Image Gently, and Image Wisely guidelines. This role ensures patient safety, identifies and follows hospital policies and procedures, and delivers high‑quality imaging while providing excellent patient care across all age groups. The position also requires adherence to HIPAA privacy standards, proper equipment maintenance, and accurate record‑keeping. The role requires a detail‑oriented, independent worker who can solve problems, maintain equipment, and contribute to a successful, patient‑centered department.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate competency in patient positioning and technical imaging skills by producing a variety of radiographic procedures while maintaining the highest standards of age‑specific patient care from neonates through geriatrics.
• Use administrative skills to contribute to the successful operation of the department by scanning all items in the inventory system and entering and completing correct billing codes in the RIS and on the patient billing sheets.
• Display a commitment to the hospital mission and values by consistently adhering to hospital safety standards, following department SOPs, policies, and protocols, following guidelines for patient identification and safety, adhering to ALARA, Image Gently, and Image Wisely radiation standards, and maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
• Effectively follow directions to maintain compliance with state and federal agencies.
• Maintain department readiness based on DNV standards.
• Perform all applicable equipment quality control.
• Accurately record all requested database/log records.
• Maintain licensure and continuing education requirements.
• Proficiently instruct students and new staff after 1 year of experience.
• Work independently.

• Refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation for specific duties.
• Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for patients, including annual training and adherence to the UH Code of Conduct and policies.

Education

• Associate’s Degree or completion of an accredited 2‑year program in a school of Radiologic Technology (required).

Work Experience

• 1+ years experience as a registered technologist (preferred).
• 1+ years as a registered Radiologic Technologist with IR experience (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Ability to perform interventional procedures in specified areas (required).
• Clear knowledge of modality‑specific equipment, computers, inventory systems, PACS, EMR, and RIS (required).
• Clear knowledge of image and exam protocols (required).
• Use a variety of equipment specific to the area, including single‑plane and bi‑plane angiographic equipment, power injectors, and various medical devices and computers (required).
• Knowledge of proper sterile procedure technique, gowning and gloving, and infection control (required).
• Effective organizational, written, and oral communication skills (required).
• Excellent customer service skills (required).
• Ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a procedural team (required).
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise (required).

Licenses and Certifications

• ARRT‑R Active certification from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (required upon hire).
• Active Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Radiographer License (required upon hire).
• Current BLS CPR certification (required upon hire).
