Location: West Bend, Wisconsin

Contract: 14 weeks

Schedule: Hours will vary. Mostly first shift but may include some second shift. First shift hours are either 0500-1330, or 0600-1430. Second shift hour are either 1100-1930, 1300-2130, or 1330-2200. Will include weekend rotation and possible holidays that fall within assignment.

Requirements: 2 years of Medical Lab Technician experience

-MLT or MLS Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is required within 1 year of hire. 
-ASCP certification or equivalent is required within 6 months of hire.

Job Summary:
Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols that require the broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing. Performs blood collection duties in a timely manner to ensure availability of test results, as needed. Keeps abreast of changes and updates to technical procedures. Consistently follows established protocols for interpreting and verifying test results. Recognizes abnormal or inconsistent results and investigates appropriately and timely. Notifies leadership of potential problems immediately to avoid compromising patient care. Consistently completes work assignments in a timely manner by prioritizing and multitasking as appropriate. Adjusts to fluctuating workloads, positively cooperating in situations where additional work is required. Maintains workstations in a clean and organized manner. Completes special projects as assigned, utilizing LIS, EMR, and other tools and resources as appropriate. Consistently communicates possible delays, issues, or potential problems to leadership. If workload permits, voluntarily completes extra projects, duties, or studies as coordinated by leadership. Consistently and accurately performs required quality control procedures and documents results as specified by each procedure. Performs corrective action as appropriate. Documents out-of-control situations, providing details of the situation and results of the corrective action taken. Notifies leadership of out-of-control, discrepant, or unexpected results. Follows specific procedures to correctly operate instrumentation. Performs and documents required instrument maintenance as specified. Performs basic troubleshooting, including contacting technical support when appropriate. Communicates with peers regarding instrument and equipment problems and notifies leadership in a timely manner. Documents instrument problems, providing details of the situation and results of the corrective action taken. Actively participates in student and new employee training. Covers training materials thoroughly and provides information regarding the principles and theories of the technical procedures. Assists in developing training curriculum. Recognizes and investigates problems thoroughly and takes corrective action as necessary. Involves peers if appropriate. For problems and issues that cannot be effectively resolved, notifies leadership in a timely manner. Successfully completes all competency assessments required. Follows required performance improvement plans as needed. Effectively performs all work within defined error limits. Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing. Addresses customer inquiries, requests, and concerns thoroughly, following through positively and appropriately. Timely informs leadership of issues or concerns. Required Qualifications:

 

• Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, including an internship at an affiliated laboratory from an accredited institution, is required within 2 months of hire.
• Combined military experience and training that aligns with CLIA and CAP requirements.
• MLT or MLS Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is required within 1 year of hire.
• ASCP certification or equivalent is required within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Two years of clinical laboratory experience.
