POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced GPS Grade Control Technician to support grading and earthwork operations across multiple active project types. This person will be responsible for setting up and operating Trimble GPS equipment (base and rover), directing operators to cut and fill areas, staking, and running topographic surveys. You will be the primary link between the plans and what happens on the ground. This is not an entry-level position. You need to know how to set up a base station, troubleshoot the rover, read grading plans, and communicate grade to equipment operators in real time — without supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Set up and operate Trimble GPS base and rover for grade control on active construction sites

- Direct equipment operators to designated cut and fill areas based on engineered grading plans

- Verify cut and fill elevations against grade sheets and construction drawings in real time

- Set hubs, blue tops, and stakes for operators across residential, commercial, and roadway work

- Run topographic surveys to capture existing ground conditions and verify grading progress

- Read and interpret civil grading plans, cross-sections, drainage profiles, and cut sheets

- Monitor subgrade, base course, and finished surface tolerances; document and flag out-of-tolerance conditions

- Coordinate with superintendent and survey crew on control points, benchmarks, and any plan discrepancies

- Assist with cut/fill quantity calculations and earthwork verification

- Support quality control on compaction lifts and grade punchout

REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum 3 years of field experience as a Grade Checker, GPS Grade Tech, or Survey Technician in civil construction

- Hands-on experience setting up and operating Trimble GPS base and rover — this is required, not preferred

- Ability to run topographic surveys independently and interpret topo data against design grades

- Proficiency reading civil grading plans, construction drawings, and cut sheets

- Solid understanding of cut/fill relationships, drainage slopes, and earthwork sequencing

- Experience directing equipment operators (scrapers, dozers, motor graders) to grade

- Experience across residential subdivision, commercial site, and roadway project types

- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions on active job sites

- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
