School Nurse

The School Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing basic healthcare services to students at the assigned school, promoting student wellness, and supporting a safe and healthy school environment. The LPN works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), physician, or designated supervisor to deliver nursing care, administer medications, maintain health records, and respond to medical emergencies.

• Assesses student health concerns and determines appropriate interventions or referrals.
• Collaborates with school personnel to identify and address the social, emotional, and physical needs of students.
• Provides first aid and routine nursing care to students.
• Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician's orders, school policy, and state regulations.
• Maintains accurate and confidential student health records; ensures HIPPA/FERPA compliance
• Conducts health screenings as required by state regulations and school policy.
• Advises students and parents in healthy habits, wellness, and disease prevention.
• Works with community agencies in planning facilities to meet the needs of children outside the school setting.
• Assists students with disabilities that require special healthcare needs.
• Assists in developing and implementing Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and supports accommodations for students with medical needs.
• Monitors and manages students with chronic health conditions
• Prepares and maintains lists of students with medical conditions requiring accommodations, including activity restrictions, seating modifications, medication administration, or dietary considerations.
• Provides parents and guardians with required health forms and facilitates communication regarding student health concerns.
• Reports significant student injuries, accidents, and illness trends to the building principal and ensures all accident/incident reports are completed and filed according to school procedures.
• Notifies parents or guardians regarding student illness or injury and provides supervision of ill or injured students until released to parental care.
• Responds promptly to medical emergencies and initiates emergency procedures when necessary.
• Assists with completing local or district and state reports as required.
• Attends meetings with the school administrators when required.
• Consults with attendance personnel and staff regarding health-related factors affecting attendance and communicable disease concerns.
• Recommends building equipment and supplies to the principal by requisition.
• Maintains inventory and proper storage of medications and medical supplies.
• Approves student early dismissal for health-related reasons in accordance with district procedures.
• Monitors immunization compliance and reports health data as required.
• Works with principal and custodial staff to support infection control practices and health-related safety procedures
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations for school personnel.
