Survey Project Manager

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionOverviewBurkhardt is seeking a highly motivated Project Manager or Survey Manager to join our land surveying team. Survey Managers are responsible for leading a team of land surveyors, CAD technicians, survey field crews, and other technical staff to successfully plan, execute, and deliver high-quality projects. Projects will include ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Boundary Surveys, Topographical Surveys, Right-of-Way and Utility Surveys, FEMA Certifications, As-Built Surveys and Construction Staking.This is a client and public facing role that includes preparing proposals and negotiating fees, ensuring quality control, managing subconsultants, invoicing, interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction and fostering strong client relationships.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the full project lifecycle, from initiation through project closeout.Prepare project work plans and manage schedules and team workloads.Provide technical direction and oversight to the team, and when necessary, assist the team with research, boundary resolution, drafting and survey drawing production to meet deadlines.Lead research and communication with authorities having jurisdiction, including: records research and approval and recording processes.Prepare and review survey drawings, exhibits, legal descriptions and seal documents as needed.Ensure Burkhardt standards for quality are being met, review drawings for accuracy, clarity and jurisdictional compliance.Lead project meetings and deliver presentations at client meetings, planning commission hearings, and council or commissioner meetings as required to obtain project approvals.Prepare proposals and contracts, change orders, and client invoices.Review in-progress project budgets and take corrective actions as needed.Proactively identify project challenges, mitigate scope creep and ensure contract conformance.Coordinate work with internal and external project team members and manage subconsultants.Train, mentor, and develop office and field team members.Maintain strong client relationships by routinely engaging with clients to discuss current and upcoming projects, identify new opportunities, and gather feedback to continuously improve service and performance.Education / Skills / ExperienceBachelor’s degree in land surveying, civil engineering, or a related field.A minimum of ten (10) years of land surveying experience, including at least three (3) years in a project management role with direct reports.Professional Licensure (P.S. required).Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D (preferred) and proficiency in Microsoft 365 products.Proficient with operating Trimble survey equipment and utilizing Trimble Business Center (preferred).Extensive experience with ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Boundary Surveys, Topographical Surveys, Right-of-Way and Utility Surveys, FEMA Certifications, As-Built Surveys and Construction Staking.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Proactive and engaging with a strong attention to detail.Servant leadership approach to management.About BurkhardtBurkhardt Engineering Company, founded in 1999, provides land surveying, civil engineering and site development design services to owners, operators, real estate professionals, architects and developers stretching across various sectors including: commercial, mixed use, healthcare, national retail, residential, educational, civic, municipal, and industrial markets.Our growing, 20-person team focuses on providing exceptional service to our clients by thinking like owners, communicating promptly and clearly, maintaining transparency, and approaching everything with the utmost integrity and a generous spirit.Key BenefitsCompetitive Compensation and Quarterly Profit-Sharing Program.401(k) Retirement Plan - with minimum 3% company contribution.Paid Time Off.Paid Holidays.Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.Employer-Paid Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance.Employer-Paid Life and AD&D Insurance.Parental Leave for the birth or adoption of a child.Catered Lunches and Free Snacks and Drinks.Flexible Work Hours and a Casual Work Environment.Employer-Paid Professional License DuesEmployer-Paid Continuing Education and Professional Development Support.
