Overview Be the first line of defense against injury and illness of civilians after natural disasters and the soldiers who serve and protect our Nation every day. As a Health Care Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will experience a fulfilling role as an expert caretaker on and off the battlefield. Responsibilities Administer emergency medical treatment to battlefield casualties and civilians after natural disasters or civil emergencies. Assist with outpatient and inpatient care and treatment for soldiers and civilians. Instruct soldiers on Combat Lifesaver/First Responder training courses. Support and manage medical readiness, supplies, and equipment, ensuring readiness for deployment. Provide ongoing care and coordinate medical assistance during missions. Key Skills Patient care techniques. Advanced medical care capabilities. Plaster casting and basic wound management. Effective communication and teamwork under stressful conditions. Attention to detail and adherence to medical protocols. Training & Certification Training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training for fundamental soldiering skills and 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) focused on patient care. The length of AIT varies with specialty. Graduates must obtain certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the EMT level or higher.
