Teller/New Accounts Representative

Tellers/New Account Representatives are often the first point of contact for customers, setting the tone for the banking experience. The primary responsibilities are to process customer transactions accurately, open various types of accounts (personal and business), maintain existing accounts, and deliver exceptional customer service. The role requires expertise in the bank's products and services, compliance with banking regulations, policies, and procedures, and alignment with the bank's Core Values. The salary range for this position is $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. Compensation is analyzed individually and considers location, experience, and education. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Teller Functions: Accurately perform a variety of teller transactions, including cashing checks, processing withdrawals and deposits, issuing cashier\'s checks, and change orders. Maintain cash drawer limits and verify customers’ identities. Understand bank products and services and present them to customers. Promote High Performance Growth and related initiatives. Assist customers with non-transactional needs and respond to incoming calls. Balance teller drawer, cash vault, coin machine, and Teller Cash Recycler (TCR). Open and/or close the branch daily as scheduled. New Account Functions: Provide a wide range of account management services, including opening, closing, and maintaining personal and business accounts (Checking, Savings, Money Market, IRAs, Health Savings Accounts, Certificates of Deposit, Safe Deposit Boxes). Review New Account Disclosures with customers to ensure understanding. Prepare account documents, obtain signatures, and scan completed documents within allotted timeframes. Perform CIF and Account Maintenance. Respond to inquiries about FDIC insurance and advise on maximizing insured limits. Maintain understanding of products and services and present them confidently; suggest additional products or services aligned with customer needs. Understand E-banking, Cash Management, and Merchant Services (basic). Understand loan products offered and the service providers. Complete Position Development Plans (PDP) milestones as required for advancement. Compliance and Risk Management: Demonstrate the importance of clean desk policy, customer confidentiality, and secure workstations. Apply dual control as necessary and properly document it. Read account and customer alert messages and understand their importance. Be vigilant for fraud that could affect the bank and its customers. Ongoing Responsibilities and Adherence to Compliance: Adhere to Bank of the San Juans Core Values. Follow applicable banking regulations, laws, policies, directives, security, and operational procedures. Complete required Compliance and Security training within designated timeframes and seek clarification from a supervisor as needed. Adhere to Bank Security Policy and report security risks to management. Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems. Support the bank’s mission by participating in community service and bank-sponsored activities, maintaining a professional image and confidentiality, and being flexible and adaptable to meet needs. Maintain regular, reliable, and timely attendance; attend required meetings. Provide exceptional internal and external customer service by engaging calmly and professionally with diverse individuals. Additional duties as requested or assigned. About You Qualifications: A High School Education or GED Up to six months of related experience in cash handling and customer service Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions Strong customer service skills Detail oriented Team-oriented Verbal and written communication Skills Cash handling skills Work Environment: Must be able to work indoors in a climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise; not extreme or excessive. Work: Light work. Standing and walking most of the time; ability to exert up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently; ability to sit for long periods as needed. Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Duties include sitting, repetitive hand movements, speaking and hearing; occasional standing, walking, and lifting or reaching with hands and arms. Travel occasionally by automobile, air, or public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities as required. Routine operation of office equipment and computer use (6-8 hours per day when necessary). Extended hours or travel off-site may be required by management. Regular attendance is required. Ability to climb/descend stairs in emergency situations. Specific lifting: up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. Specific vision: close visual acuity for data preparation, reading, and computer work.
