EC Additional Support, Childers Elementary School Location: Lincoln County Schools, Childers Elementary, Lincolnton, North Carolina. Starting date: Aug 6, 2026. Job ID: 5749424 – Open until filled. Position Type: Full Time. Salary: Grade 59 ($16.48 – $22.23 per hour); local supplement if applicable. Salary is based on NC State Retirement System service years. Responsibilities Assist the teacher with instructional, technical, clerical tasks to support students with disabilities. Provide one‑on‑one academic, behavior, personal and self‑help support; lead small group activities. Assist with housekeeping, clerical duties, and personal care needs of students. Monitor safety, behavior, and discipline; motivate and encourage self‑esteem. Reinforce skills introduced by the teacher; help students become increasingly independent. Assist the teacher in executing instruction; modify materials and tests as needed. Maintain an orderly classroom through general housekeeping duties. Monitor the safety and care of school, classroom, and student equipment. Perform other related classroom tasks as directed by the teacher or administrator. Maintain a good attendance record and arrive on time. Support school‑wide procedures, emergency protocols, and crisis prevention/intervention (including restraint). Supervise students inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, field trips, and school‑wide activities. Participate in in‑service training programs for professional growth. Handle heavy or moderate lifting tasks (up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, 20 lbs constantly) to move objects and assist students. Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or GED. Must pass a drug test, background check, and TB test before starting employment. Full compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Hold an Associate’s degree or higher (any area) OR 30 semester hours OR a passing score on the WorkKeys Test offered at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC). WorkKeys scores: Workplace Documents 4+, Applied Math 4+, Business Writing 3+. Learn and apply instructionally required skills: braille, augmentative communication, and other student‑specific aids. Medical/Medication training (catheterization, tube feeding, medication administration). Diabetic training as needed. Additional certifications: TEACCH Training, First Aid, CPR. Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding students with disabilities and their families. Use a variety of equipment and instructional tools (computers, copiers, calculators, wheelchair equipment, communication devices, picture cues). Physical capability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and move students for personal care needs, including light to heavy lifting as described. Assist with feeding, personal hygiene, and toileting needs; support communication and social needs. Transfer students to/from wheelchairs and position them as directed by the teacher or therapists. Apply practical problem‑solving strategies; follow written, oral, or scheduled instructions; communicate procedures effectively. Follow classroom routines, school‑wide policies, emergency procedures, and county‑wide policies of Lincoln County Schools. Assist in managing student behavior and crisis intervention, including restraint procedures. Supervise students during the entire school day, both inside and outside the classroom. Participate in continuing professional development training. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
