Location PO Box 1001,Fort Worth, TX, 76101-1001,United States Job Category Survey Employee Type Full-Time Non-Exempt This position is for all out of region travel projects and upcoming major/long term projects. Assist the Party Chief with proper research prior to going to a job site and operate applicable instrument data collectors to accurately collect field data. This role includes setting up equipment, ensuring survey data accuracy, and assisting the Party Chief with daily functions. Experience with Trimble GPS equipment and Total Station is preferred. The Instrument Technician is responsible for ensuring the truck is stocked and prepared for daily job site operations. Some travel outside the region may be required. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate total stations, base stations, and network rovers to gather survey data accurately. Load and manage CSV, TXT files, shape files, and stake-out files into a TSC7/data collector for survey work. Proficiently use Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel to manage survey files and upload data to cloud servers. Set up field survey equipment for OPUS control points and submit the correct files for NOAA processing. Perform closed-loop traverses, reduce data, and execute trigonometric leveling. Conduct functions such as inverse, resection, staking lines, translating, and rotating coordinates in the field. Read recorded subdivision plats and metes-and-bounds legal descriptions. Execute map checks and determine errors of closure using survey equipment. Locate property corners using pin finders and recorded deeds or plats. Conduct line work according to company field codes. Responsible for clearing topography when necessary to ensure accurate data collection. Calibrate prism rods as needed. Ensure truck is fully stocked and equipped each day for job assignments. Adhere to safety protocols to protect personnel and equipment at all worksites. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Effective communication and interpersonal abilities. Adaptability within a fast-paced organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant tools. Education and Experience Must hold a valid driver's license High School Diploma or equivalent required. Land surveying experience is a plus. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Ability to read instructions, plans, and specifications for accurate survey data collection. Must be capable of setting up equipment and clearing topography when necessary. Ability to perform fieldwork for extended periods, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Must understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work is performed both outdoors and in an office environment. Outdoor work may be conducted at landfills, construction sites, and in traffic. Physical Demands To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as including lifting and carrying instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain. Incumbents may also be required to clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Standard working hours are Monday through Saturday and some Sundays (time varies) Travel Overnight travel can be anticipated. Local day travel is required to meet project and client demands. This position includes a mix of local fieldwork and travel to out-of-town project sites. Travel may involve overnight stays and extended time away, depending on project location and duration.
