Technical Director, Advanced Consulting Group (Retirement)

About the Role As the Technical Director, Advanced Consulting Group, you will be at the forefront of helping working Americans prepare for and live in retirement. Your expertise in the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) will help financial professionals help their Plan Sponsor clients bring creative savings opportunities to their employees. You will guide strategy for qualified retirement plans, employee benefits, and distribution strategies. Key Responsibilities Direct case design by providing comprehensive tax and technical support around sophisticated concepts such as business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies to be funded with financial products. Provide comprehensive consultation to wholesalers, financial professionals and their clients and third‑party professionals. Travel and speak at industry events on sophisticated concepts impacting life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and qualified retirement plans. Build, advise and review sales collateral on the use of financial products in business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies. Partner and collaborate with Marketing to provide a strategic approach to the development of sales and marketing campaigns for all Nationwide Financial sales channels. Author and publish tax and sales related articles, white papers and sales ideas on sophisticated financial product applications for use in business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies. Drive sales by educating professional decision makers on recent tax and legal changes. Craft, implement and facilitate training on sophisticated concepts funded with financial products for wholesalers and advisors. Monitor, research, interpret, apply and communicate current and anticipated legal, tax and regulatory changes to Product Development, Marketing, Underwriting and Business Development. Collaborate with internal business partners to build and implement business plans and critical initiatives. Provide a source of credibility through expertise and reputation in the industry to internal/external wholesalers and financial professionals as they establish their own credibility with clients. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications SIE & Series 6 required within 120 days of hire. JD strongly desired; CPA a plus. FINRA Series 6 or 7 license required. CLU or ChFC designations preferred. 8–10 years of related experience in law, accounting or financial planning/sales. Proven knowledge of business law, tax, accounting, sales or financial planning. Strong public speaking and persuasive writing skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Travel & Leadership Frequent travel required to engage with clients, attend industry functions and represent Nationwide at forums such as ASPPA, NAPA, PSCA, ARA, EBRI, NACo, NIPA, and NTSA. Demonstrated ability to be part of a cross‑functional team contributing to strategic visioning with a results‑oriented mindset. Additional Requirements This role does not qualify for employer‑sponsored work authorization and Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program. A JD is strongly desired, CPA a plus, and SIE & Series 6 must be obtained within 120 days of hire. Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $122,000.00 – $214,000.00. Expected starting salary: $122,000.00 – $182,000.00. Benefits include medical/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, short and long‑term disability coverage, paid time off (minimum 18 days per calendar year), nine paid holidays, 8 hours of Lifetime Paid Time Off, 8 hours Unity Day paid time off, 401(k) with company match, company‑paid pension plan, and business casual attire. Work Environment Normal office environment; significant (20%–70%) travel required. Working conditions: overtime ineligible (exempt).
