RN Operating Room Circulator

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room, PreOP, and PACU provides professional nursing care across the lifespan, ensuring high-quality, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered services. The RN coordinates perioperative workflow as a circulator nurse by preparing patients, verifying documentation, ensuring equipment readiness, and facilitating communication among the surgical team. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and participation in on-call coverage to support urgent and emergent surgical cases. Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to provider orders and policies.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalate care.
• Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Coordinate perioperative workflow as a circulator nurse, including patient preparation, documentation verification, equipment readiness, and safety checklist completion.
• Facilitate communication among surgical team members and support sterile staff.
• Document key intraoperative events to maintain a safe and efficient surgical environment.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes and safety.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities and maintain required competencies and certifications.
• Provide guidance and delegation to ancillary staff and support orientation, mentoring, and education of staff and students.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed.
• Participate in on-call coverage for urgent and emergent surgical cases.

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
• Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Clinical competency within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• High Risk Competency within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.
• Strong clinical judgment, organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

• Certification in specialty-specific nursing areas such as NRP, TNCC, ENPC as applicable.
• Experience in perioperative nursing or specialty areas related to operating room, PACU, or PreOP.

• Must participate in on-call coverage to support urgent and emergent surgical cases.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Work environment includes moderate-to-high noise clinical settings.
• Compliance with safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements is mandatory.

• Work schedule includes shifts in Operating Room, PreOP, and PACU with on-call responsibilities.
• Shift assignments may vary and include day, evening, or night shifts as needed to support perioperative services.
