Assistant Professor of Political Science

The Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice at Muskingum University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Political Science, beginning in Fall 2026. This is a renewable term faculty position.

The successful candidate will be joining a collaborative and student-centered academic environment. We seek a dynamic and engaging educator to teach undergraduate courses in the American Politics program and the Pre-Law minor and who will work closely with faculty and students in growing the University's Political Science program and Pre-Law minor. The ideal candidate will foster student learning through innovative teaching methods and provide mentorship to support students' academic and professional growth. This position will make service contributions to the department and the university and support initiatives that promote student engagement and experiential learning.

Potential courses include:

  • Introductory courses in American Government and Public Policy
  • Constitutional Law
  • Congress and the Presidency
  • Campaigns & Elections
  • Research Methods

Potential Departmental service includes:

  • Pre-Law advising
  • Creating and coaching a Mock Trial Team
  • Advising a Political Science and Law student club
  • Developing new Pre-Law programming and expanding on current Pre-Law programming

Qualifications

PhD in Political Science or a related field or a JD with relevant career experience required; ABDs will be considered; completion of degree is required prior to the start of the position.
