Job Summary
Reports To: Director of Training & Prevention
Job Type: Full-time, exempt, salaried position. Annual salary of $53,000. Up to 20% of travel may be required to facilitate trainings or attend conferences. Some nights and weekends are required.
Purpose: The Statewide Prevention Specialist supports Sexual Assault Center’s statewide sexual violence prevention efforts through training, technical assistance, community engagement, and capacity-building initiatives. This position provides expert prevention education and consultation to community partners, faith-based organizations, schools, colleges and universities, parents and caregivers, and other community stakeholders across Tennessee. Grounded in a public health approach to violence prevention, this role emphasizes primary prevention strategies that address the root causes of sexual violence, promote healthy relationships, strengthen protective factors, and support sustainable community and systems-level change. The goal of the program is to strengthen statewide efforts to prevent sexual violence before it occurs by helping communities develop and implement evidence-informed prevention strategies, shift social norms, and foster safer, more equitable environments at the individual, relationship, community, and societal levels.
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide dynamic and effective prevention-focused training sessions and technical assistance to community partners throughout Tennessee, including faith-based organizations, schools, colleges and universities, parent and caregiver groups, community organizations, and other prevention-focused stakeholders.
- Develop and facilitate prevention education tailored to congregations and faith leaders, equipping them to foster safe environments, implement abuse prevention practices, respond appropriately to disclosures, and promote cultures of respect, accountability, and healthy relationships.
- Deliver active bystander intervention and sexual violence prevention training to hospitality professionals through the Safe Bar initiative, supporting bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues in creating safer experiences for patrons and staff while maintaining program certification standards.
- Coordinate logistics for training sessions, including preparing and assembling training materials for participants, dynamic facilitation of prevention-focused content, and collecting attendance and survey data.
- Engage in outreach efforts to current and potential community partners to promote prevention training opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and increase participation in training offerings.
- Support community-based prevention initiatives by assisting partners in understanding and implementing evidence-informed sexual violence prevention strategies.
- Meet administrative and clerical needs of program grant including but not limited to scheduling meetings, timely correspondence with requests/participants, tracking prevention activities, and participating in team meetings.
- In partnership with other Training & Prevention team members, hold responsibility for the development and refinement of prevention curriculum and materials that reflect current best practices in sexual violence prevention and community change strategies.
- Assist with other Training & Prevention Team programs and priorities as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and additional relevant professional experience in prevention, education, public health, social services, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
- A minimum of 10 hours of education, training, or certification related to trauma, domestic violence, sexual violence, prevention science, or closely related topics is required. Documentation of this requirement may be requested during the interview process.
- A demonstrated understanding of sexual violence dynamics, trauma-informed approaches, public health prevention strategies, and evidence-informed prevention practices is essential.
Required Experience:
- Strong public speaking and facilitation skills with at least three years of experience in public speaking, presenting, training, and community education.
- Experience working with systems and organizations engaged in sexual violence response, violence prevention, public health, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills and experience working with diverse communities, along with a strong understanding of equity and justice principles. This role requires a commitment to prevention work that is inclusive of and responsive to marginalized communities, including experience with identity-focused education and equity training.
- Experience in community relations, partnership development, working within faith communities, and/or providing technical assistance is highly valued.

- Must be proactive, engaging, and possess excellent rapport-building skills.
- Must be able to balance organization and detail orientation with flexibility in evolving prevention initiatives and shifting project scopes.
- Models trauma-informed, prevention-focused, and culturally humble approaches to community engagement, client care, and organizational wellness.
- Skilled in facilitation of prevention education and public speaking to audiences with diverse education levels, backgrounds, and disciplines.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage, track, and report data related to training and prevention activities.
- Able to identify and respond to shifting priorities in community-based prevention work.
- Utilizes good judgment to de-escalate/pivot conversations and handle disruptions in training environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
