Job Title: Deli Clerk Vendedor Del Deli

Deli personnel assist the customers with their requests for a variety of meat and cheese while providing excellent customer service.

Essential duties and responsibilities include ensuring customers are taken care of by answering questions regarding products sold within the department, remaining knowledgeable about the products sold within the department, cutting, slicing, weighing, and packaging deli items pursuant to customers' requests, lifting and carrying merchandise back and forth between display coolers, countertops, slicers, cutting boards, refrigerators, and freezers, checking product quality to ensure freshness, maintaining refrigerated cases with appetizing displays of products for sale, keeping work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards, washing, sanitizing, and storing knives and other department utensils and equipment properly, using and maintaining all equipment in meat department according to company guidelines, maintaining all requirements for a sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination, completing all required cleaning procedures including hosing down the floor, cleaning countertops, slicers, etc. when working the end of day shift, reporting all accidents promptly according to company procedures, attending and participating in departmental and store meetings, ensuring punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies, and performing other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include assisting with back room production as needed, labeling, stocking, and inventorying department merchandise, staying current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads, assisting with Meat and Seafood areas when needed, and assisting with unloading and/or verifying merchandise off meat delivery trucks when needed.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), minimum of 18 years of age, and previous deli experience or training. Competencies, skills, and/or qualifications include the ability to properly use department equipment, possessing adequate knife handling skills, ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish preferred, ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred, ability and willingness to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, co-workers, and customers, very good interpersonal skills, taking responsibility for own actions, ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends, basic math and numerical skills required including weights, measures, and identifying product codes, ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form, and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.

Physical demands include standing and walking, using fingers and hands, reaching with hands and arms, using repetitive motion with hands and arms, talking and hearing, using sense of smell, close vision, having eye-hand coordination and peripheral vision, carrying, lifting, and/or moving departmental products and merchandise, pushing and pulling carts of departmental products and merchandise, stooping or bending at the waist, twisting back and/or neck, crouching or bending at the knees, sitting, climbing or balancing.

Work environment includes performing duties in a grocery store environment, maintaining frequent contact with supervisors, employees, and customers, noise level in the work environment is low to moderate, frequent use of gloves, knives, meat and cheese slicers, wrapping device, case cutters, stock cart, refrigerators, freezers, coolers, and cleaning supplies and equipment, floor surfaces may get slippery therefore caution and safety is mandatory, proper attire is required to tolerate freezing temperatures when retrieving merchandise from freezer, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
