Job Title Activity Therapist / Training and Development Therapist Location 36 Clinton Street, Concord, NH 03301 Employment Type Part‑Time Salary $19.96 – $26.41 per hour Summary Monitor training and development therapeutic programs, plan and deliver direct services to acute psychiatric patients with an emphasis on stabilizing symptoms and enhancing functional life skills. The position involves work with adults and geriatric patient populations. Minimum Qualifications Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after high school. Education and experience in adapted physical education, recreational or occupational therapy, educational psychology, counseling, health‑related fields, sociology, public or private education, activity‑based programming, allied health, community service programs, or related fields supporting individuals with mental illness, disabilities, or special needs. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record. Ability to perform continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, lifting, and fine manual dexterity or coordination for direct patient care. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting individuals with mental illness, disabilities, or special needs. After‑Hire Requirements Satisfactory completion of the specified written and physical components of the NH Hospital Mental Health Worker Training Program within the first four weeks of employment. Completion of defensive driver training within the first six months of employment, with renewal every three years. Career Advancement Opportunities In‑Band Advancement Available: No Broad Group Level Advancement Available: No Key Responsibilities Develops, schedules, and implements individualized activity treatment programs in the areas of social, leisure, physical, and wellness in individual and group programs to meet patient needs and treatment goals. Provides direct services to patients with approximately 80% of on‑duty hours based on work assignment, which will include working evenings and weekends in some combination. May transport patients to meetings or appointments. Observes and identifies symptoms of mental illness related to age and disability needs; assesses and evaluates patient needs; plans and implements therapeutic activities to address those needs. Documents and reports relevant data in a thorough and timely manner in patients’ medical records. Possesses basic computer skills to use the Rehab Program, communicate via e‑mail, and produce reports. Collaborates with treatment team, rehabilitation colleagues, and other disciplines to provide safe and therapeutic services to patients; demonstrates effective and timely verbal and written communications with team and department members. Attends and contributes to multidisciplinary treatment team, department meetings, and hospital‑wide committees as assigned; provides coverage to other units of the hospital as needed. Maintains treatment areas and equipment in a safe and therapeutic manner, ensures supplies are sufficient to meet patient and program needs; requests purchase of equipment and supplies relevant to assigned program area. Participates in educational activities relevant to the needs of patients. Utilizes basic computer skills to operate the Electronic Health Record (EHR), communicate via e‑mail, and produce reports. Staff Workplace Safety Accountabilities Perform accountabilities in accordance with established policies and procedures. Communicate with supervisors regarding workplace safety issues (ergonomics, body mechanics, environment, equipment, etc.). Report job injuries to supervisor immediately. Attend training programs as appropriate.
