Maintenance Services Aide II - IV Custodial Services Part-Time / No Benefits $20.71 - $23.82 per hour Job Overview This position works under general supervision to perform a variety of routine custodial activities at city facilities, including maintenance of buildings and adjacent grounds. Incumbents are eligible to work evenings, graveyard shifts, weekends, and holidays up to a maximum of 28 hours per week. The role starts at the Maintenance Services Aide I level with a career progression path. Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness of restrooms, offices, and other facilities. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish floors, tables, counters, furniture, and other furnishings. Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sanitize restrooms (sinks, toilets, urinals), and deodorize fixtures. Fill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper and other items. Unclog drains and toilets, perform spot painting and minor wall surface repairs. Empty trash containers, replace liners, and remove litter and debris from properties. Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, and other assigned equipment. Keep equipment and supplies in order, request replenishment when needed. Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment as required. Observe and report safety hazards and maintenance needs. Follow oral and written directions, health and safety regulations, and perform heavy or moderately heavy labor as necessary. Maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers and others contacted in the course of work. Qualifications Minimum age of 18 years. Must have flexibility to work assigned hours, including evenings, graveyard shifts, weekends, and holidays. Physical ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods; reach, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and climb as required. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent and one year of custodial experience. Licenses Valid California Class “C” driver’s license with a clean driving record. Knowledge of Modern custodial methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment. Basic cleaning practices for restrooms, offices, floors, carpets, furniture, walls, and fixtures. Proper storage of equipment, materials, and supplies. Safety and sanitary precautions and procedures. Safe work practices and procedures. Skills and Abilities Perform routine custodial tasks at assigned facility. Operate a variety of custodial equipment safely and efficiently. Maintain tools and equipment in working order. Move and arrange furniture and equipment as needed. Observe safety hazards and report maintenance needs. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Observe health and safety regulations. Perform heavy or moderately heavy labor. Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships. Physical and Mental Demands Work requires full range body movements, including reaching, bending, stooping, grasping, kneeling, squatting, and climbing; lifting or moving up to 50 pounds; standing and walking for long periods; overhead, overhead, and horizontal reach; strength for heavy or moderately heavy labor; and dexterity for operating custodial equipment. Environmental Conditions Work takes place indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to fumes, dust, odors, cleaning agents, chemicals, and infectious illnesses or diseases.
