Job Summary Provides direct patient care in a specialty unit in accordance with scope and standards of practice and aligns with the organization’s policies, values and mission. Responsibilities Evaluates learning needs of the patient and/or family and provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including disposition, referral, spiritual and/or psychosocial support needs. Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires. Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources. Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Critical thinking, effective communication, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Department Specific Credentials ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate (required for RNs administering chemotherapy). APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider card (within 12 months of hire for RNs administering chemotherapy in pediatric settings). ACLS (required for ICU, ED, PACU, endoscopic, telemetry, obstetrical, mental health nursing pre‑operative, and specialty procedural areas). PALS (required for pediatric areas except NICU; 30 days from hire if non‑pediatric background). NRP (required for NICU; 30 days from hire if non‑NICU background). Fetal Monitoring certification through National Credential Center or AWOHNN (intermediate or advanced) for L&D RNs must be completed prior to orientation. RN Fellowship Program: one year of independent practice; ACLS and BLS certifications required. Newly licensed RNs: six months to obtain ACLS and/or PALS.
