Registered Nurse Leader - Emergency Department

Location: Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital, Mooresville, North Carolina. 123‑bed facility offering comprehensive services including 24‑hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties. Job Description Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients in accordance with guidelines established within the Discipline of Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and the North Carolina Board of Nursing. The position will provide local‑level leadership in administration, education, informatics, and quality. Work Performed Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care. Collaborate and provide leadership in developing standards of care, patient/family education, and staff education. Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient care. Lead educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, and other health‑related initiatives. Evaluate, direct, and guide proper selection, use, care, and control of material resources. Appraise quality and effectiveness of materials and equipment and collaborate with departments for vendor selection and performance feedback. Mentor and guide others through role modeling, coaching, and mentoring, including designing orientation modules and precepting senior nursing students. Provide leadership at departmental, entity, community, or regional/national levels to improve quality of care. Conduct performance reviews and recommend personnel actions, including hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Perform related duties incidental to the position. Monitor clinical practice and ensure compliance with practice and regulatory standards. Coach and mentor nursing colleagues. Influence recruitment and development of staff. Plan and deliver in‑house education sessions, collaborate with subject matter experts, keep up‑to‑date with evidence‑based practices and adult education, and assess educational needs of staff. Serve as a superuser for clinical information systems, disseminate information on technology adoption, facilitate service tickets and troubleshoot concerns, provide training and support, and act as a change agent for new technology. Analyze patient care data with experts to identify trends and areas for improvement. Participate in multidisciplinary committees focused on quality and patient safety. Engage in research and innovation initiatives to develop new methodologies and technologies for enhancing patient care. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the scope of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed staff; appropriate application of the nursing process; professional theory, practice, and procedure. Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and families; seek resources independently and collaborate; establish effective working relationships; communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others; teach patients and families per the nursing plan of care; prioritize information, treatment, and follow‑up; use fine motor skills; competence in BLS and/or other specialized life support; record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation, and re‑evaluation of patient status; use computers and learn new software; document and communicate with computer or paper tools; navigate the entity for clinical care; withstand prolonged standing and walking; remain focused and organized; understand procedures for routine and special treatments; infection control procedures and safety precautions; joint commission and other regulatory requirements; pre‑employment physical capacity testing. Level Characteristics Provide leadership at the CSU, departmental, institutional, community, or regional/national level. Lead change by seeking creative solutions to improve quality and efficiency in patient care delivery. Minimum Qualifications Education Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a BSN degree. Experience Three years of experience required. Clinical Nurse II and III are eligible to apply for the CN IV Leader role; applicants will perform CN IV duties and responsibilities. Licensures & Certifications Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina. BLS required.
