CNC Machinist

Talascend is currently seeking a CNC Machinist for a contract opportunity with our client in Torrance, California .


Overview


This role involves operating and setting up CNC machines to manufacture precision metal parts with tight tolerances, primarily working with aluminum and other metals in a high-mix, low-volume production environment.


Responsibilities

• Operate and set up CNC lathes and mills, including managing multiple machines simultaneously in a production environment.
• Verify and sign off on all aspects of the operation, including linear, outside diameter, inside diameter, runout, and other measurements.
• Use blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of finished products.
• Perform minor updates to G-code programs as needed based on established data packages.
• Manage up to three machines daily, supporting work cell efficiency.
• Utilize air gauging to verify tight tolerance bores (experience preferred).

Qualifications

• High school diploma is a plus.
• At least 2-4 years of experience operating CNC machinery.
• Experience with CNC lathes, including setting up and boring jaws to hold runout tolerances.
• Experience with CNC mills, including setting up, running production, and performing first article inspection.
• Knowledge of aluminum and stainless steel machining, occasional titanium work.
• Familiarity with early Fanuc controllers.
• Ability to verify part dimensions and tolerances independently.
• Dependable and able to work under supervision, following pre-established guidelines.
• Physical ability to lift over 30 lbs. and handle repetitive physical tasks.
• Understanding of safety risks associated with machine operation and hazardous materials.
