Position Overview

This position presents a unique opportunity at a pivotal moment of transition and renewal for the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies. Drawing on decades of rabbinic leadership deep relationships with the Dean President and leaders throughout the Conservative/Masorti Movement and extensive experience in innovation and change management Rabbi Stewart Vogel will serve as a senior partner to the President Dean and Provost in advancing the Schools renewed vision with particular emphasis on recruitment admissions and practical leadership development.

As Ziegler relaunches its admissions efforts and introduces curricular innovations Rabbi Vogel will help identify recruit and nurture the next generation of rabbis while strengthening relationships with alumni rabbis educators and communal leaders. Working closely with the Dean Ziegler staff and AJU colleagues he will engage prospective students guide candidates through vocational discernment religious growth and the admissions process and help articulate the distinctive opportunities of a Ziegler education.

In addition Rabbi Vogel will contribute to strategic planning curricular innovation and program development bringing his extensive communal experience and understanding of the evolving needs of Jewish life to the preparation of future rabbis. His work will focus particularly on identifying the practical skill and leadership experiences essential to successful contemporary rabbinic leadership while strengthening Zieglers distinctive value and appeal to prospective students.

Strategic Recruitment and Relationship Building

• In partnership with the Dean develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan to identify and engage prospective students and expand Zieglers reach.
• Cultivate relationships with Ziegler alumni rabbis educators and Jewish communal and Movement leaders inviting them to serve as advocates for the school and partners in identifying potential candidates.

• Represent and articulate the mission vision and distinctive approach of the Ziegler School including its commitment to Conservative/Masorti Judaism Jewish peoplehood Israel and preparation for contemporary rabbinic leadership.
• Build relationships with synagogues college organizations camps educational institutions and other Jewish communal settings to develop pathways for identifying and encouraging future rabbinic leaders. Participate in recruitment visits presentations webinars and other in-person and virtual opportunities either directly or by coordinating participation by students alumni and other representatives of the school.
• Collaborate with the Dean AJU Communications Team and President to refine outreach strategies recruitment messaging and opportunities to reach new audiences.
• Oversee organization recruitment events informational conversations and campus visits that introduce prospective students to Zieglers educational community and approach to rabbinic formation.

Admissions and Vocational Discernment

• Serve as a primary rabbinic point of contact for prospective students building relationships from initial inquiry through application admission and matriculation.
• Engage prospective students in meaningful conversations about their Jewish journeys aspirations readiness for rabbinic study and sense of calling to the rabbinate.
• Conduct initial interviews and provide guidance regarding program expectations admissions requirements and preparation for rabbinic study.
• Mentor prospective applicants through the process of discernment and application including identifying areas for additional learning or preparation. Maintain ongoing relationships with prospective students and applicants ensuring thoughtful and timely communication throughout the admissions process.
• Partner with the Dean and Ziegler staff to coordinate the work of the Admissions Committee including interview scheduling application review and communication of decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Provide general information about the academic program student experience financial assistance and professional opportunities connecting candidates with the Dean or appropriate AJU offices for specialized advising.

• Maintain records using student management software and assist Dean with information to create reports as needed on inquiries applications and student enrollment.

Practical Leadership and Rabbinic Formation

• Collaborate with the Dean President and Provost on the ongoing reimagination of the Ziegler School on leadership curricular innovation and program development that responds to the evolving needs of Jewish communities prepares rabbis for effective contemporary leadership and strengthens the schools distinctive value and appeal to prospective students.
• Provide perspective and guidance on emerging needs in the rabbinate and the implications for preparing students to lead with confidence competence compassion and a clear sense of purpose.

Collaboration and Institutional Leadership

• Work in close partnership with the Dean to advance the schools recruitment and admissions efforts in accordance with the educational mission and institutional policies.
• Participate as needed in the development and review of recruitment and admissions communications.
• Provide regular updates to the Dean and President on recruitment activities prospective student engagement admissions progress and emerging opportunities.
• Represent Ziegler in appropriate communal and Movement settings strengthening relationships and advancing the schools visibility and reputation.
• Other items as assigned by and agreed upon between advisor Dean and AJU President.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment (e.g. computer phone copier).

• The role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time and to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and data entry.

• Must be able to communicate effectively in person via video conferencing and by phone.

• Maintain regular and predicable attendance.

• Must be able to lift push pull and carry objects (10 lbs.) such as supplies and files.

• Occasional movement throughout campus and to off-site locations may be required.
