Housekeeper / Family Assistant

Location:   Manhasset, Long Island, New York 
Schedule:   Monday–Friday
Compensation:  $40/hour
Position:   Full-Time, Long-Term

A private family is seeking a   long-term Housekeeper / Family Assistant   to maintain their beautiful 6,200 00 sq. ft. home and help ensure the household runs smoothly. The ideal candidate is experienced working with busy families and young children, highly proactive, organized, discreet, and comfortable taking initiative without constant direction.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a beautifully organized, orderly, and welcoming 6,200 sq. ft. home, following established cleaning schedules and preferences.
• Manage family laundry from start to finish, including washing, stain removal, folding, ironing, putting away, and maintaining organized systems. Assist with laundering wet sheets/clothing after children's accidents and making beds promptly.
• Maintain closets and wardrobes, including ongoing editing, folding, organizing, and seasonal upkeep.
• Manage dry cleaning and inspect clothing and linens upon return.
• Organize drawers, cabinets, kitchen spaces, pantry areas, closets, toys, and other household storage.
• Proactively identify areas needing attention and restore order without being asked.
• Keep the kitchen and pantry organized and stocked, including paper towels, napkins, and other household supplies; reset and tidy the kitchen after meals.
• Run household and personal errands, including dry cleaner, seamstress, florist, donations, returns, and other tasks.
• Coordinate with household vendors and service providers; oversee appointments, deliveries, repairs, and people coming into the home. Receive, unpack, and organize deliveries and packages.
• Help ensure household systems and routines operate smoothly, including maintaining the entryway and future mudroom.
• Care for plants, polish silver, and keep crystal and antique mirrors clean and sparkling.
• Assist occasionally with entertaining, including event preparation, support during events, and cleanup. Overtime paid as necessary.
• Provide a warm, reliable presence around the children while remaining focused on household duties. Interact appropriately, firmly, and respectfully while reinforcing household rules and manners.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in a safe, sanitary, and working condition.
• Prioritize needs appropriately and communicate effectively.
• Collaborate closely with the Nanny regarding cleaning schedules, mealtimes, nap times, and unexpected needs, including promptly laundering soiled clothing/sheets and replacing them.
• Prepare the home for family travel and arrival, including cleaning out the refrigerator and food areas while the family is away and preparing agreed-upon basics before their return.

Qualifications & Expectations

• Experience working for busy families with young, growing children, including constantly changing closets, toys, and household organization.
• Highly discreet and respectful of family privacy.
• Able to read and comprehend simple instructions and follow household systems and documents.
• Technology proficient, including email/text communication, accessing household documents electronically, arranging deliveries, researching information online, communicating with vendors, and ordering household inventory.
• Physically active and fit, with the stamina and mobility to reach, climb stairs, kneel, bend, and assist with heavy suitcases, storage bags, and bins.
• Professional, hardworking, proactive, positive, and pleasant to be around. Takes initiative without waiting to be asked or reminded; follows established household preferences and duties; arranges repairs and servicing when needed; and suggests improvements.
• Collaborative team player who works well with domestic staff.
• Solution-oriented and able to suggest practical solutions when something isn't working.
