For more information, visit Schedule 2:00pm - 12:30am with every third weekend Job Summary Assists the supervisor and director of clinical transport with oversight of the day to day operations of the Transport department. Monitors the transport tracking system workload and assignments and problem solves issues in real time with ancillary and nursing departments. Assists leadership in evaluating job performance, orientation, training and coaching team members to achieve acceptable performance. Under direction of department leadership, moves/transports patients of various weights, ages, and sized to and from beds and ambulatory devices; to and from various treatment areas, using acceptable body mechanics while maintaining patient comfort and security. Interacts with patients from toddlers to geriatric, with all types of illnesses. Secures, returns and maintains designated supplies and equipment. Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Primary Responsibilities Provide day-to-day supervision of the transport department's workflow, ensuring that all patients, equipment, and supply transports are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Prioritize transport requests based on patient needs, clinical urgency, and departmental resources. Accurately assign tasks to team members to optimize efficiency and minimize delays. Serve as a role model and mentor for the transport staff. Assist department leadership in training new employees, evaluating job performance, and providing ongoing coaching to improve skills and maintain high standards of patient care. Perform a variety of patient transport duties, including the safe movement of patients of all ages and medical conditions via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to and from various hospital locations. Utilize proper body mechanics and all necessary equipment (e.g., lifts, transfer boards) to ensure the safety and comfort of patients during transfers, while also protecting yourself and others from injury. Function as a key liaison between the transport team and other hospital departments, such as nursing and radiology. Communicate effectively to coordinate schedules, resolve transport delays, and address any immediate issues. Secure, maintain, and sanitize all transport equipment, including wheelchairs, stretchers, and oxygen tanks. Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any malfunctions or damage to the appropriate department. Maintain accurate records of transport requests, completion times, and any relevant patient information in the transport tracking system or on required paperwork. Proactively identify and resolve operational issues, service delays, or conflicts that may arise during a shift. Serve as the first point of contact for staff who encounter problems on the job. Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, safety protocols, infection control procedures, and HIPAA regulations to ensure a secure and confidential environment for patients and staff. This may include specialized duties like morgue transport. Skills & Abilities Possesses leadership skills to effectively lead a team. Delegate directions. Physical stamina: The ability to push, pull, lift, and maneuver patients and equipment weighing over 100 pounds with assistance. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods. Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact compassionately and professionally with patients, families, and all hospital staff. Leadership ability: Strong leadership qualities to motivate, coach, and guide a team. Must be able to delegate tasks effectively and provide clear direction. Problem‑solving skills: The ability to think critically and resolve issues quickly and calmly, especially under pressure in a fast‑paced environment. Organizational skills: Exceptional time management and organizational abilities to prioritize multiple transport requests and manage a dynamic workload. Knowledge of safety protocols: A thorough understanding of proper body mechanics, patient handling techniques, infection control procedures, and general hospital safety regulations. Attention to detail: Meticulous in documenting transport information and ensuring all equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained. Empathy and compassion: A patient‑centered mindset with a genuine concern for patient comfort, privacy, and dignity. Flexibility and adaptability: The capacity to adapt to changing priorities, unexpected emergencies, and a fluctuating workload throughout a shift. Basic medical terminology: Familiarity with common medical terminology and an understanding of different medical conditions and their transport‑related needs (e.g., oxygen, isolation precautions). Education & Experience - Required High school diploma or GED. BLS certification. 6 months of patient transport experience. Skills & abilities. Education & Experience - Preferred Associate degree preferred. BLS required. One to two years of leadership experience preferred. Compensation Pay Range: $17.89 - $23.59.
