Cashier Position

The Cashier is responsible to receive and process payment for services rendered or parts/materials purchased. He/She explains vehicle service recommendations to customers, prints out and writes up estimates and invoices, and accepts payment in cash or through the use of electronic point-of-sale equipment and credit/debit payment media. The Cashier records the payment amount and closes repair orders in the computer system. The Cashier must operate specific software programs to keep track of customer data such as service history, parts purchased, and/or contact information. He/She may need to calculate materials charges, repair charges, and taxes -- and must understand various types of warranties.

The ideal Cashier candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a minimum of one-year of money-handling experience, a pleasant and helpful demeanor, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and an affinity for math.

Duties and responsibilities include greeting customers in a friendly and appreciative fashion, answering telephone inquiries and routing calls quickly and efficiently, receiving and processing payment for products and services using electronic point-of-sale processing equipment, processing credit and debit transactions, checks, and other forms of payment, operating system software to accurately maintain customer data, encouraging repeat business by acknowledging the customer's purchase with gratitude, adhering to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards, and performing other duties as assigned.

Physical demands include clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, remaining on ones feet in an upright position at a workstation without moving about, moving about on foot, raising or lowering an object including files from one level to another (includes upward pulling) 10 25 lbs, transporting objects, usually holding in the hands or arms, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction, bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm, and expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Environmental conditions include exposure to weather, moving mechanical parts, non-climate controlled conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, high, exposed places, noise, and vibration.
