Transportation Manager II Location: New Jersey, Monroe Township. Department: Supply Chain, United States. Job Summary Under general supervision, responsible for direct driver management and supervision of a midsize driver count, ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, and best‑in‑class customer service. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and all company policies while working with internal and external contacts to accurately plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight. Must be flexible to work day, night, and weekend shifts as required. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety to minimize turnover and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and lead special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Train and orient drivers and employees on internal and customer systems. Analyze fleet operations and profitability, recommend improvements, and monitor KPIs, presenting customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and operational or financial reporting. Manage yard inspections, replace parts (e.g., mud flaps), coordinate repairs, and schedule preventive maintenance to ensure safety‑related mechanical issues are addressed. Resolve service, routing, mechanical, and accessorial issues with drivers, customers, and company staff throughout the day and on‑call as needed. Maintain a safety culture with daily driver safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforce company policies for DOT compliance. Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement, handle exceptions, and adjust driver ETA based on schedules and road conditions. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED and 2‑3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends. Strong professional communication skills with internal and external stakeholders. Experience establishing and maintaining productive relationships. Foster strong customer relationships through commitment delivery, open communication, and continuous improvement. High accuracy in information processing and decision making. Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage competing priorities. Willingness to travel to account and customer locations. Adaptability to dynamic work environments and shifting priorities. Experience holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations. Performance under stressful, high‑pressure conditions. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. 1‑2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Compensation Starting pay range: $66,000.00 – $82,500.00 per year. Eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes per company plan.
