Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, the new hospital will provide modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community. The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. We anticipate start dates to begin Fall, 2025. Overview The Medical Technologist (MT) works under the direction of the supervisor/manager in the area of responsibility and/or Director of the Laboratory. Performs technical procedures in such areas as Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology according to established Protocols and standard operating procedures. The Medical Technologist is required to follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines established in the department to include accurate performance, review and documentation. Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), DNV, State, OSHA, AABB, CLIA, etc. The medical technologist assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The Medical Technologist performs the responsibilities of lead technologist in the absence of an on site supervisor when designated as such. The medical technologist adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; maintains a professional demeanor and exhibits a positive attitude. May perform specimen collection, specimen processing and phlebotomy as applicable. What you will do Perform technical procedures in areas such as Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, Point of Care Testing, Urinalysis and Microbiology. Facilitate positive customer service throughout the department/facility. Respond timely to customer needs. Recognize, respond and communicate collaboratively with physician regarding variances in laboratory operations and patient data. Build collaborative professional relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs. Follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines. Perform routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting. Understand the technology systems necessary for efficient department operations and take responsibility for equipment, instrumentation and technology to maintain and ensure functionality. Complete accurate testing to ensure quality patient care, to include preanalytic, analytic and postanalytic phases. Assist in staff and student training. Comply with laboratory QA/QI program. Perform preventative maintenance, quality controls and troubleshoot on laboratory equipment per standard operating procedures to ensure quality laboratory results. Be responsible for ensuring department is maintaining accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), DNV and other accrediting agency standards (as required) within the department. May include validation testing, performance of proficiency samples, preventative maintenance, QC documentation, Temperature Checks, methods comparisons, etc. Comply with RHS policies/procedures/regulatory requirements that support the National Patient Safety Goals and Quality Initiatives. Recognize and report variances and provide resolutions. Use appropriate protective equipment, body mechanics and follow safety guidelines and procedures; identify and act to resolve variances or suspected non-compliance to management.
