Job Overview

Saint Joseph Health System is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant with Cardiothoracic Surgery experience to provide locum coverage alongside attending Cardiothoracic Surgeons. This opportunity is ideal for a PA experienced in first assisting and vein harvesting who enjoys a mix of inpatient care, surgical assistance, and call coverage.

The provider will participate in patient rounding, perioperative management, and surgical procedures while working in a collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team.

Coverage Dates

• September 14 October 12
• October 23 November 9
• November 20 December 7

Candidates able to cover most or all blocks are strongly preferred.

Schedule

Monday Friday

• 7:00 AM 4:00 PM
• Night Call: 4:00 PM 7:00 AM

Weekends

• 24-Hour Call
• Saturday & Sunday: 7:00 AM 7:00 AM

• First Assist in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (Maquet System)
• Hospital Rounds
• Pre-Operative Evaluations
• Post-Operative Care
• Order Tests and Interpret Results
• Prescription Management
• Chest Tube Removal
• Pacing Wire Removal
• Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordination
• Wound Care and Suture/Staple Removal
• Documentation in EPIC
• Emergency Response utilizing BLS/ACLS Protocols

Required Qualifications

Active Indiana PA License

NCCPA Certification

Experience with Maquet Vein Harvesting

Cardiothoracic Surgery Experience

COVID-19 Vaccine Documentation

Current Self-Query NPDB Report (within 30 days)

Ability to Cover Most or All Open Coverage Blocks

Preferred Qualifications

• Local Candidates within Driving Distance
• Prior Cardiothoracic Surgery Locums Experience

Compensation
