Prevention Specialist

Prevention Specialist Sieda Community Action seeks qualified candidates for the position of Prevention Specialist in our Behavioral Health and Treatment Services Unit. Working under the direction of the Prevention Supervisor, the Prevention Specialist implements prevention programs throughout Sieda’s catchment area. This includes program presentations, media relations, coalition building, and youth development activities. Compensation and Benefits Full-time, full-year, non-exempt position with a hiring pay range of $18.01 to $21.17 per hour. Paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation leave. Qualifications Formal education: Bachelor's Degree in community health, human services, social sciences, or education. Experience: Minimum of two years of related experience. Technical proficiency: Moderate computer knowledge, ability to use existing program software with minimal training, maintain computer operational, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Responsibilities Performs complex varied duties requiring advanced skills. Implement action steps, goals, and objectives that may be included in various grant applications. Prepare and maintain required monthly reports, correspondence, evaluation forms, and educational/audiovisual materials. Review and maintain current literature, audiovisual aids, and research appropriate for prevention efforts. Write and edit drug education publications, news releases, public service announcements, and educational handouts; submit for supervisory approval. Schedule and present prevention/education programs to diverse populations during day, evening, and weekend hours. Ensure all services comply with CARF International Accreditation Standards. Require successful completion of the Prime for Life Training to become a 12‑Hour DUI Class Facilitator as instructed by Prevention Supervisor. Other duties as determined necessary to support the mission, vision, and goals of the agency. Independent action: Receives periodic supervision regarding task guidelines and completion. Decision‑making authority: Limited independent decision‑making authority. Additional Training and Requirements Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) Certification required within 24 months of employment; agency provides registration costs and per diem reimbursement for CEU trainings. Attend and participate in agency and program meetings and training as requested. Travel required both in and outside the service area; proof of auto insurance and valid driving license required if employee claims travel reimbursement. Position is a mandatory reporter of child abuse and required to hold a valid training certification. Program Representation and Design Requires expansive levels of interaction with staff, persons served, program participants, county stakeholders, and other agencies in a role representing the agency. Involved in planning multiple programs/entire unit reflective of job responsibilities as requested. Physical Demands Regularly required to talk and hear; occasionally required to stand, walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Mild lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities: close vision and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.
