Sr Sterile Processing Technician

Sr Sterile Processing Technician – Baytown Hospital Join us at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital. The 2nd‑shift position (1 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) requires at least two years of sterile processing experience and a Sterile Processing certification (CRCST or CSPDT). The role maintains high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspection, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment for all surgical services and ancillary departments. Responsibilities include working closely with operating room staff to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts, while practicing excellent customer service and maintaining a consistent workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing department.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, homeschool verification, partial or full post‑secondary completion)

EXPERIENCE

Two years of sterile processing experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Sterile Processing certification: CRCST or CSPDT

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs advanced decontamination and assembly of complex surgical trays and customized instrumentation using established count sheets Functions independently to sterilize instruments and trays following manufacturer instructions and institutional policies Prioritizes timely sterile products, trays, and case carts by interpreting the surgery schedule and OR staff needs Ensures continuous workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing while providing excellent customer service

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Improves sterilization effectiveness via internal, external, and biological monitoring systems, following established protocols and manufacturer instructions Avoids, prevents, and responds to emergent situations while managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision Applies appropriate cleaning detergents and agents, reading directions and SDS sheets, and uses department equipment per manufacturer instructions and policies

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages time effectively to minimize overtime by completing assigned work and cleaning workstations at shift end Utilizes department resources to ensure completeness of trays, instruments, and equipment according to count sheets and identifies cost‑saving measures for management

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs, trains, and mentors industry sterile processing standards, expanding learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development Acts as a department resource on Shared Governance and other hospital committees and participates in improvement activities Collaborates with the SPD Educator to provide at least two relevant educational/in‑service presentations and maintains an up‑to‑date Individual Development Plan
