Preferred Qualifications: Professional proficiency in both Spanish and English. Familiarity with University System of Georgia college admission criteria, application processes, and enrollment requirements. Experience as a college advisor, college admissions counselor, school counselor, or student-support professional in a college, university, school district, or college-access organization. Knowledge of Georgia postsecondary pathways, dual enrollment, FAFSA, HOPE programs, scholarships, and other college-affordability resources. Experience: Prior professional experience in a student-support services role serving secondary or postsecondary students and families, preferably as a college advisor or college admissions counselor. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and use data to monitor student progress and outcomes. RESPONSIBLE TO: School Principal JOB SUMMARY: The College Advisor provides individualized and schoolwide college-planning support that helps students and families understand, access, and successfully navigate the college admissions, financial aid, scholarship, and enrollment processes. The advisor partners with administrators, school counselors, teachers, families, colleges, and community organizations to expand postsecondary opportunities and support students from exploration through transition and enrollment. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance. Build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with students and families and provide timely, individualized college advising. Guide students through college exploration, selection, applications, admissions requirements, enrollment decisions, and transition planning. Keep students and families informed of deadlines, eligibility requirements, and available resources through individual conferences, communications, workshops, and family events. Provide accurate guidance regarding financial aid and scholarships, including completion of the FAFSA and understanding Georgia HOPE programs and other state, federal, institutional, and private aid opportunities. Assist students with registration, preparation, and planning for college entrance examinations and other admissions-related assessments, when applicable. Monitor student progress toward graduation and postsecondary eligibility, and collaborate with school counselors and administrators to address barriers promptly. Track, analyze, and report key indicators, including credits, graduation progress, applications, acceptances, financial-aid completion, scholarships, and enrollment outcomes. Coordinate college fairs, admissions visits, information sessions, campus visits, guest speakers, and other college-access activities. Develop and maintain productive relationships with colleges, universities, scholarship providers, community partners, and college-access organizations. Support dual-enrollment and other postsecondary-credit opportunities in collaboration with students, families, school staff, and partner institutions. Research and connect students with summer programs, internships, enrichment experiences, and other college-readiness opportunities. Maintain accurate, confidential student records and use district-approved systems and tools in accordance with applicable policies and legal requirements. Participate in professional learning and remain current on college-admissions practices, financial-aid requirements, and college-access research. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Physical Demands: Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
