Patient Care Technician - Emergency Department

Exemption status: No. Job Summary Geisinger offers a Patient Care Technician role with a minimum hiring rate of $18.94/hour, increasing for experience and up to $3 shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends. Candidates may also receive up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse. Responsibilities Assist registered nurses in advanced patient care duties (dressing care, suctioning, Foley catheter removal, peripheral IV, venipuncture, skin puncture). Handle breast milk, infant, and pediatric formula preparation, storage, and delivery. Document patient care in the medical record, observing and reporting changes in patient condition. Provide activities of daily living, hygiene, linen changes, and one‑to‑one safety watches. Process and transport specimens, perform point‑of‑care testing and instrument maintenance. Assist in problem‑solving and corrective measures for equipment and supplies. Serve as preceptor and mentor for new staff and students. Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; transcribe orders; release tests; coordinate patient transportation; schedule tests; maintain supplies. Communicate with food services, manage non‑controlled medication transport, and assist with blood product transport. Coordinate discharge follow‑up calls and virtual appointments; support quality rounds and regulatory readiness. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED) – required. Preferred: graduation from a specialty training program. Minimum of 1 year related work experience – preferred. Basic Life Support certification within 6 months – required.
