Maintenance Manager - Automation & Controls
Location: Syracuse, NY Salary: $100,000–$115,000 + bonus and comprehensive benefits Schedule: On-site
Our client is a global manufacturing company with a strong presence in the packaging industry. They are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead automation, controls, engineering initiatives, and technical talent at a local manufacturing site.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automation or controls leader who enjoys both the technical and people-management aspects of manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Lead site automation and controls strategy and initiatives
Oversee automation systems, controls infrastructure, and manufacturing technologies
Manage capital projects from concept through commissioning
Drive equipment reliability, uptime, OEE, and downtime improvements
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain
Lead, coach, and develop engineering, automation, maintenance, and technical staff
Identify opportunities for new technology and continuous improvement
Establish technical standards, documentation, and best practices
Support employee development, training, cross-training, and succession planning
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related technical field
5+ years of manufacturing engineering, automation, controls, or technical leadership experience
3+ years of people leadership experience
Strong experience with PLCs, HMI/SCADA, industrial networks, and manufacturing controls
Experience managing capital projects and cross-functional initiatives
Strong understanding of manufacturing reliability and continuous improvement
Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills
Preferred: Experience in packaging, food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment, along with Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, or Operational Excellence experience.
