Job Description The City of Saratoga Springs is hiring a full‑time Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. This employee is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of City buildings. They will oversee the ongoing custodial & maintenance to ensure that facilities are clean, safe, attractive, and secure. They direct and supervise the day‑to‑day operations of the Facilities Maintenance Technicians, Facilities Custodians, and other outside vendors as assigned. Works under the direction of the Office & Facilities Administrator and the City Manager. Job Responsibilities Provides front‑line supervision to assigned individuals, including training, identifying priorities, scheduling work, monitoring work progress, and monitoring employee performance for accuracy and effectiveness Manages all repairs, maintenance, inspections, upkeep, and installations at City facilities Troubleshoots equipment and components in City buildings by utilizing multiple craft skills, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry Oversees and may perform cleaning services such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, emptying trash containers, dusting furniture, walls, machines, and equipment, cleaning interior windows, sanitizing bathrooms, locker rooms, kitchens, break rooms, polishing fixtures, filling dispensers, and one‑time major cleaning projects Oversees and performs building maintenance and repairs including lighting, lamp replacement, switches, painting, drywall, carpentry, windows, doors, electrical, equipment and appliances, plumbing and HVAC, and walls Oversees preventative maintenance to ensure functionality, safety, and code compliance while maintaining an aesthetic appearance in City buildings Oversees building maintenance and repair work performed by outside vendors Documents, reviews, works with employees to take corrective action, and reports violations of policies, procedures, and guidelines Documents, reviews, and reports all work‑related safety incidents, including near misses Keeps accurate records of work performed, inventory used, and requirements for upcoming projects Informs and works with Facilities Administrator in the acquisition of tools, supplies, and other equipment needed for cleaning, repair, and maintenance projects Utilizes CityWorks Management/Work Order system, via mobile phone or tablet, to track open work orders, assign other employees’ work, and record facilities repair & maintenance history Creates, oversees, and performs processes designed to keep work flowing in a cost‑effective manner Assists with the dissemination of information to other City Personnel and impacted parties on assigned projects Directs, sets up, and prepares buildings for large special events, both public and private, where heavy lifting, tools, or heavy equipment are required Will be required to work outside of regular business hours as needed and may be required for emergency cleanup and repairs or scheduled maintenance work Assists with snow removal during inclement weather at City facilities May assist with tracking, scheduling, and overseeing maintenance and repair of the Administrative department’s vehicles Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications A High School Diploma or GED equivalent Must have eight (8) years of experience working in custodial fields, building maintenance, construction, or a related field, with a minimum of four (4) years of previous experience as a crew lead or front‑line supervisor. Preference may be given to applicants with trade school or specialty experience. Special Qualifications & Certifications Must possess a valid Utah Driver license Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrate the ability to follow City policies and procedures Have a thorough knowledge of work hazards, safety procedures, and public safety matters Know industrial cleaning/custodial duties, cleaning methods, and supplies Have journey level knowledge of commercial maintenance with working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, drywall repair, and painting Can correctly identify and source compatible parts and materials Can direct and work with facilities employees and other City staff Can develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, and the general public Has excellent written and oral communication skills to direct employees, coordinate with other departments, answer public inquiries, and enforce City facilities rules Receives, delivers, and explains oral and written instructions Communicates with others and assimilates and understands information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions Is approachable by the public, City staff, elected officials, and appointed officials, and can communicate effectively under potentially adverse circumstances, working well with others Has writing ability to produce correspondence, memos to employees, and schedules Can plan, schedule, and review the work and performance of others in a manner conducive to proficient performance and high morale Assists in establishing effective working relationships, including an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect, and cooperation Develops, maintains, and manages a team to achieve goals, project deadlines, and objectives, scheduling and control Exercises initiative and sound judgment and reacts resourcefully under varying stressful situations Prioritizes a complex set of work objectives, maintains several concurrent projects and responsibilities Utilizes computers and other electronic devices to maintain records, use task lists, and monitor messages while doing other work Utilizes Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and specialty software (CityWorks) Has skill in record‑keeping principles and practices Can assess risks and hazards and make effective and timely recommendations for action and correction Uses all tools and operates all equipment safely, including climbing ladders and balancing without assistance Maintains a safe and clean environment Adheres to, and ensures subordinates adhere to, all City guidelines, best practices, and compliance with OSHA mandates Works both in an office environment and outdoors in the field Interprets plans and specifications Has physical strength and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods under dirty and uncomfortable conditions and in all types of weather, as necessary Concentrates on completing assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner Takes initiative and applies ingenuity and practical knowledge to interpret and resolve new, unusual, or troublesome situations Has reading ability to interpret technical journals, manuals, and other materials pertaining to facility maintenance, equipment, systems and repair Works independently and completes daily activities according to the work schedule Is flexible to be available for emergency call‑outs during off time Is enthusiastic, driven, hard‑working, and approachable by citizens, staff, and council Exercises sound and good judgment at all times, especially in emergency situations Working Conditions The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions. Pushes, pulls, lifts, and/or carries up to 50 pounds. Pushes, pulls, lifts, and/or moves carts of items up to 100 pounds. Noise level is usually moderately quiet while in the office and moderately loud when utilizing some equipment. Works in outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid, high, precarious places, near fumes, airborne particles, or toxic or caustic chemicals. Maintains efficiency, attention to detail, alertness, proficiency, and accuracy while working for sustained periods. Requires the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, including on ladders or similar equipment, without assistance. May be required to drive City vehicles. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: Minimum – $27.56/hr. Midpoint – $33.07/hr. Maximum – $38.58/hr. Benefits include health, dental, life, and long‑term disability insurances, an EAP, a free Teledoc program, wellness incentives, an HSA with employer match, and optional additional coverage such as Vision, Accident, Hospital, and Critical Illness. The City participates in the Utah Public Retirement System (pension). The City does not participate in Social Security; instead it contributes 6.2% of salary into a 401(k) plan. Leave time benefits include 120 hours of paid time off (PTO) accrued annually, 40 hours of short‑term medical accrued annually, and 11 holidays annually. Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7 am to 6 pm.
