AI Designer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI Designer based in United States.

This role focuses on designing engaging AI and NPC experiences for AAA multiplayer and live-service games. You will take gameplay concepts from early ideas and design documentation through rapid prototyping and implementation in Unreal Engine 5. Working closely with engineering, art, and production teams, you will own AI-focused features and help bring compelling gameplay systems to life. The role combines creative game design with hands-on technical implementation, iteration, and problem-solving. You will contribute to new projects while helping shape NPC behaviors, mechanics, and player experiences. This is an opportunity for an experienced designer to have meaningful ownership within a collaborative game development environment.

Accountabilities:

• Design and execute features across the full development process, from conceptual ideas and sketches through documentation, prototyping, and in-game implementation.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate on gameplay concepts and AI/NPC systems using Unreal Engine 5.
• Own AI and NPC design features from initial concept through implementation, testing, iteration, and delivery.
• Implement NPCs and supporting gameplay systems using tools such as Blueprints, Gameplay Ability System (GAS), State Machines or Behavior Trees, and NavMesh.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, art, production, and other cross-disciplinary partners to deliver cohesive gameplay experiences.
• Work with project stakeholders to understand goals, priorities, player needs, and overall creative vision.
• Implement assets and maintain project files using appropriate source-control workflows.
• Write, maintain, and communicate clear design documentation, feature specifications, and development processes.
• Manage JIRA items and track progress for owned features and related work.
• Participate in playtests, gather player and team feedback, and translate findings into actionable improvements.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve design bugs and gameplay issues.
• Present design concepts, mechanics, and feature goals to stakeholders and management, incorporating feedback throughout development.
• Deliver milestones reliably while maintaining a high standard of quality, creativity, and gameplay polish.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional game design experience.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and shipping at least 2 PC or console game titles.
• Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 and/or Unreal Engine 5.
• Experience designing and implementing AI/NPC gameplay systems in Unreal Engine.
• Familiarity with Blueprints, Gameplay Ability System (GAS), State Machines or Behavior Trees, and NavMesh.
• Understanding of multiplayer game development and networking concepts is highly desirable.
• Experience developing core UI components across a variety of game experiences.
• Strong ability to rapidly analyze feedback, adapt designs, and continuously improve gameplay experiences.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
• Ability to clearly present and explain design thinking, game mechanics, feature concepts, and overall design goals to stakeholders at different levels.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new tools, technologies, and development methodologies.
• Strong ownership, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to meet demanding expectations and consistently deliver against project milestones.
