Exceptional Children Bus Monitor

Job Title

Qualifications:

High School Graduate

College degree or 48 College Credits or Workkeys

Knowledge And Abilities:

• Ability and skill to lift and place students comfortably
• Skill in accurately operating and adjusting the special equipment
• Ability to learn and remember the bus route
• Ability to understand the individual needs of exceptional students
• Ability to maintain positive working relations
• Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written directions
• Ability to lift on a regular basis

Duties And Responsibilities:

• Assist exceptional students in manipulating equipment they must use on the bus and entering and exiting the bus
• Secure wheelchairs, seat belts, and other safety devices as necessary
• Restrain students in Child Safety Restraint System as required by the IEP/504 Plan
• Seat students in their assigned location
• Strategically ride in a location on the bus to optimize view of students in order to monitor behavior and provide assistance as necessary
• Diffuse student conflict by utilizing approved training resources
• Report problems and concerns of students to the designated authority
• Assist the bus driver when backing, etc.
• Assist the driver with the design and implementation of an evacuation plan
• Know the bus route
• Take every initiative and be a team player
• Be safe and on time
• Maintain work schedule, as assigned by the supervisor
• Observe confidentiality of information about individual students
• Other duties as assigned by bus supervisor, principal and/or superintendent
