Nurse Practitioner - Outpatient Spine Center & Inpatient Pain Management opening in Boston, Massachusetts - 10 miles from BostonDetails:FT, permanentSeeking to recruit a Nurse Practitioner to join the spine and pain services at the region's premier orthopedic hospital.This is a full-time employed clinical position with a split role between our outpatient Physiatry led Spine Center and our inpatient peri-operative pain service.In the outpatient setting, the NP will work closely with physiatrists and physical therapists within a function-first spine care model that emphasizes careful diagnosis, rehabilitation-based treatment pathways, and longitudinal patient management. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, follow-up care, care coordination, and support of interventional spine and pain services.In the inpatient setting, the NP will be an integral member of the peri-operative pain service, collaborating with anesthesiology, nursing, and surgical teams to support post-operative pain management for complex orthopedic patients. This role offers meaningful exposure to acute pain management within a high-volume orthopedic hospital environment.This position reflects program growth and expanding clinical demand. No positions are being replaced. The role is well suited for NPs who value collaborative practice, continuity across care settings, and participation in a structured, team-based model of spine and pain care.Prior experience in musculoskeletal, spine, pain, or peri-operative care is preferred, though motivated candidates with strong clinical foundations and interest in spine and pain medicine are encouraged to apply. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):Develops a database on individuals by obtaining a health history, physical examination, laboratory data and other diagnostic testing, as indicated.Makes accurate identification of problems/diagnosis based upon correct interpretation of findings.Develops an appropriate plan of care including diagnostic testing, consultation and/or referrals to other health care team members.Assists patients in meeting health needs by identifying potential or existing problems, exploring available alternatives and providing support to the patient to make an informed decision regarding health care.Provides patient teaching in relation to the procedure and general health issues as needed.Consults with Medical Staff members for guidance in complex assessments.Works with medical staff physicians to ensure that protocols are appropriate to the patient population being seen.Communicates to the attending/primary care physician and/or consultants, any care plan being initiated.Works closely with physician, physical therapists and internal case manager to coordinate care.Participates in appropriate operating committees.Demonstrates the ability to effectively express one's ideas in a discussion of professional issues.Reviews diagnostic tests and laboratory results and makes appropriate decisions for follow-up of abnormal findings.Initiates treatment for patients following established protocols.Maintains confidentiality of interventions.Participates in and/or provides educational programs.Participates in an on-going learning process of continuing education.Participates in hospital/nursing committees, as requested.Participates in Quality Improvement activities of the department.Demonstrates the ability to initiate emergency treatment when indicated i.e. perform CPR, initiate Code protocol.Plans time away from work appropriately:Arrives and leaves at appropriate times based on OR schedule and patient load on floors.Uses unplanned earned time appropriately (Based on full time hours.
