Specific Duties include, but not limited to the following: Evaluatesandassessesstudentprogressagainstinstructionalobjectives Possesses working knowledge of state and federal laws related to Social Work (Section 504) Coordinates individual and group meetings for students Providesanatmosphereandenvironmentconducivetotheintellectual,physical,socialandemotionaldevelopmentofeachstudenttoensuresuccess Manages behavioral Tier system (1, 2, and 3) Assistsindistrictinitiatives(Ex.Bullying,SexualHarassment,etc.) Makes home visits and provides resources for families Servesasliaisonbetweencommunityorganizationandtheschooltomeettheneedsofstudents Teachessocialskillslessonswithintheregulareducationclassroom Providesanorientation(expectations)fornewstudentswhoenrollafterthestartoftheschoolyear Communicatesandinteractswithstudents,parents,staffandcommunity Administersformalandinformaldiagnosticassessmentintheareaofsocial/emotionallearning Workscooperativelywiththeadministrationandstafftoschedulemeetings PossessesknowledgeofSocialWorkresearch,trends,andbestpractices Monitorthepacingofinstructionandbudgetclasstimeefficientlybyprovidingcleardirections,outliningexpectations,andeffectivelybringingtoclosureinstructionalexperiences Utilizestechnologyforcommunication,assessment,andinformationmanagement Demonstratesorganizational andproblem-solvingskills Maintainsregularattendanceandarrivepromptlyaccordingtoschedule Complieswithtimelinesforevaluations,reports,andotherassignedtasks Maintains confidentiality of student information Maintainscurrentinknowledgeofspecialeducationrulesandregulations Report questions/concerns to immediate supervisor Complieswithallapplicablelocal,state,andfederalhealth,safety,education,andrelatedrulesandregulations. Develops,plans,andimplementsdevelopmentallyappropriatesocialworkactivitiesforchildrenwithexceptionalneedsasspecifiedonIEPs,includingindividualandgroupcounseling Uses empathy in interpersonal relationships Provides crisis intervention as needed Attendsandparticipateinproblem-solvingmeetings,IEPteammeetings,staffmeetings,andothermeetingsasassigned Demonstrateseffectiveleadershipinmultidisciplinaryteams Identifiesandanalyzestheeffectsofcultural,environmental,socioeconomic,psychosocial,medical,andlegalfactorsonastudent’seducationalachievement. Assistswithfunctionalbehavioralanalysesandbehavioralconsultations Presentsassessmentfindingsinanunderstandablemanner Makesclear,practicalrecommendationsforbehavioralinterventions Develops and implements prevention plans Completesapplicablepaperwork,includingIEPs,evaluationreports,progressreports,andotherrequiredforms DevelopsmeasurableIEPgoalsandobjectivesalignedwiththeIllinoisSocialandEmotionalLearningStandards Workswithparentgroupstofacilitatetheirsupportintheirchildren’sschooladjustment Linksschoolandcommunityservicesbyinitiatingreferralsandmaintainingfollow-upservices Helpsthedistrictreceiveadequatesupportfromsocialandmentalhealthagencies Conducts inservice training programs Providesconsultationonissues,suchasfamilyfunctioning,normalchilddevelopment,alternativeprogramsfordrop-outs,delinquents,truants,etc. Implementsspecializedtechniques,programs,andbehaviormanagementsysteminaccordancewithrequirementsofassignedschools ThefollowingisthePriorityListestablishedforsocialworkersbytheIllinoisStateBoardofEducationandissupportedbytheSchoolSocialWorkersasRCS. Emergency – Crisis Intervention Mandates (Evaluation and IEP implementation) Teaming Consultation Assessment and referral services Program Development Staff Inservice Training Classroom Intervention Group Work with Students and Parents Individual Counseling with Parents or Students Demonstratesabilitytorespectdifferingopinions,acceptconstructivecriticism,andhandleconflict. Demonstratesstrongoralandwrittencommunicationskills. Mental Demands: Abilitytocommunicate(verbalandwritten);abilitytoinstructstudents,andeffectivelycommunicatewithparentsandcolleagues. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Abilitytouseweb-basedprograms,e-mail,andtechnology(laptop,Smartboard,etc.) Working Conditions: Indoorclassrooms/School,exposureto:studentnoise,lawnmowing,music,odorsoffood,mowedgrassandpossiblecommunicablediseases.
