Software / Data Engineer (First Technology Hire - NYC Private Equity) (New York)

How would you like to be the first technology hire at a NYC private equity firm - handed a blank sheet of paper to build their entire tech stack and data strategy from the ground up?

What's The Job?

As our first technology hire, you will own the modernization of our tech stack and the build-out of our data strategy. Almost nothing is built yet. Outside of Microsoft 365 and our CRM, you are choosing the tools.

Day to day, you will be:

• Building the data foundation our investment, asset management and finance teams run on - pipelines, integrations, and one source of truth for portfolio and property data.
• Automating the manual processes that live in spreadsheets and inboxes today, using Python, SQL, Power Automate and Power Apps.
• Standing up reporting and dashboards in Power BI so the partners can see performance without waiting on a manual roll-up.
• Connecting our CRM, accounting systems and third-party real estate data sources.
• Acting as the internal expert - recommending the platforms we adopt and owning the roadmap we follow.

We have an experienced outside technology advisor and consultancy we have utilized in the past you can liaise with, so you are not figuring this out alone. You will report directly to our CFO and have partner-level exposure from your first week.

Who Are We?

We are a New York City private equity firm founded in 2014, investing in real estate and real estate platform companies. We have several billion in assets under management and expect to pass $5B shortly. We are a 25-person team based on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, and we have never had a technology function. You would be building it.

What Skills Do You Need?

- 1-4 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Developer or Business Systems Analyst.

- Strong SQL, plus Python (or similar) for automation and data work.

- Working knowledge of the Microsoft ecosystem: Microsoft 365, Power BI, Power Automate / Power Apps. Azure, Microsoft Fabric or SQL Server are a plus.

- Experience building or maintaining data pipelines, ETL, system integrations or reporting.

- Real business curiosity. You will be sitting with the CFO and the partners, not behind a ticket queue.

- The polish and professional maturity to operate inside a private equity firm.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field.

- You must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder. We are not able to provide visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Compensation

• $125,000 - $175,000 base salary
• Annual bonus, targeted at 15-30% in year one
• Full benefits package
• 4 days on site in our Park Avenue office (Monday-Thursday), remote on Fridays
