Sr. Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Overview Department/Unit: Nuclear Medicine. Work Shift: Day (United States of America). Salary Range: $94,957.00 - $147,183.00. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under the direction of the Supervisor and Director of Imaging and Related Services, performs technical procedures and assists in the clinical evaluation and care of patients. The technologist utilizes their modality to create diagnostic images and provide a safe positive experience. In radiation producing modalities, technologists practice and enforce radiation safety measures in accordance with the NewYork State Department of Health Code Part 16. Technologists support teaching and continued learning as technology changes for themselves and others. The technician prepares and administers dosages of radiopharmaceuticals, positions patients for scanning and operates nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment, including SPECT/CT or PET/CT scanners. The technologist is responsible for radiation safety, quality control procedures, disposal of radioactive materials, and monitoring work areas and patient rooms to ensure levels of radioactive materials align with NY State regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains competent imaging skills in the practicing modality and strives to grow and develop a professional, progressive Imaging Department with a positive atmosphere. Practices in compliance with Hospital/Departmental policy as well as NewYork State and accrediting agencies’ standards. Assists physicians in all aspects of procedures in the assigned area. Provides a safe, positive experience for the patient. Actively supports AMCH and the Imaging Department in maintaining proper accreditations. On‑call responsibilities and dose preparation in the hot lab when covering. Starts IV lines and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients. Enters patient data into computer systems accurately. Qualifications High School Diploma/G.E.D. – required. Associate's Degree from an approved two‑year AMA Nuclear Medicine School – required. 4–6 years of related experience – required. Independently able to perform; supports inexperienced NMTs. Capable of handling complex patients; demonstrates command of clinical imaging acquisition and processing software. Positive leadership skills; acts as a resource, mentor, and preceptor. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, procedure/protocol manuals, and document required information on established forms. Strong communication skills when interacting with patients, families, employees, and others. Proficiency in basic mathematics, including calculations for dose volumes and activities. Adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and the profession. Ability to use good judgment, accept direction, and resolve conflicts to ensure continuity of appropriate patient care. ARMedMS or ARRT - Nuclear Med Tech upon hire – required.
