Assistant Principal
The Assistant Principal of Phillis Wheatley Elementary School serves as an instructional leader and administrator for students in grades 3 through 5. The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and academically engaging learning environment that promotes the social, emotional, and academic growth of elementary learners. Responsibilities include supporting daily school operations, fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and families, supervising and evaluating staff, promoting effective instructional practices, and assisting with student support services and school improvement initiatives.
Qualification requirements include a master's degree in Educational Leadership or successful completion of a leadership program, holding or being eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a School Principal/Assistant Principal, at least four years of successful teaching or educator experience, preferably in an elementary school, at least two years of demonstrated and effective leadership experience in an educational environment, and strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting the Principal in the overall administration and operation of PWES, supporting the implementation of instructional programs aligned with district curriculum and state standards for grades 3 through 5, promoting a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture that supports the developmental needs of young children, assisting with the supervision, observation, and evaluation of certified and classified staff in accordance with district procedures, supporting teachers through instructional coaching, professional development, and collaborative problem solving, assisting in the development and implementation of school improvement goals and initiatives, coordinating and supporting student intervention processes, including MTSS and behavior support systems, assisting in monitoring student attendance, behavior, and academic progress, supporting the implementation of developmentally appropriate discipline practices, collaborating with counselors, specialists, special education staff, and related service providers to support student success, assisting with state testing coordination and other assessment-related responsibilities as appropriate for primary grades, helping coordinate school safety procedures, emergency drills, and crisis response protocols, fostering strong communication and partnerships with families and the community, assisting with student arrival, dismissal, transportation, cafeteria, and other operational duties, participating in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring staff members, maintaining accurate records, reports, and documentation as required by district, state, and federal guidelines, attending and participating in school events, meetings, and professional learning activities, and performing other duties as assigned.
