Maintenance Manager

Job Overview This Maintenance Manager role will support the commercial‑scale manufacture of vaccines and therapeutics at the Durham, NC site. The candidate will provide direction, coaching, and technical expertise to maintenance personnel, ensuring reliable maintenance of manufacturing processes and minimizing downtime to protect product quality. Key Responsibilities Develop, motivate, and manage a team to ensure reliable manufacturing process execution. Assign yearly performance objectives aligned with department and site goals. Provide regular feedback and coaching to employees on work performance. Provide leadership to the team as needed based on the team’s capabilities and maturity. Ensure on‑time approval of payroll activities using approved software such as ADP. Leverage process execution and continuous improvement initiatives. Serve as a leadership presence on the manufacturing floor, championing standard work and best practices, including PM01 and PM02 work orders. Help the team troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime and maintain product quality. Serve as permit supervisor for applicable high‑risk work, ensuring safe execution per site procedures. Identify opportunities to improve maintenance execution and schedule adherence, updating SOPs, preventive maintenance plans, and calibrations. Represent Maintenance on project teams as needed. Lead and support daily Tier meetings to facilitate information flow up and down the organization. Hold regular team meetings to cascade information and collect feedback. Provide clear, consistent communication across shifts. Escalate issues to ensure appropriate support and awareness. Act as a subject‑matter expert during tours, providing area/process overview to visitors and auditors. Foster a strong safety culture through coaching, corrective actions, and consistent quality‑driven decision making. Participate in safety and regulatory audits, including tours and topic discussions. Manage financial aspects of maintenance, ensuring timely and accurate SAP transactions. Manage team staffing and overtime to support customer demand while meeting budget targets. Recognize and communicate cost‑saving opportunities for potential project chartering. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor’s degree in life science, engineering, or business is preferred. Minimum six (6) years of experience in a maintenance, manufacturing, or military role, or at least four (4) years with a bachelor’s degree. Willingness to work a shift schedule including 2‑3‑3 rotation x 12.5‑hour shifts, 4‑day x 10.5‑hour shifts, or 5‑day x 8.5‑hour shifts, with alternating weekends and holidays. Must also work all site shutdowns as scheduled. Ability to qualify and maintain gowning requirements for entry into classified areas. Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Preferred Qualifications CMRP, CRL, or similar maintenance certification. Previous supervisory experience. Experience in a GMP‑regulated manufacturing environment. Experience using electronic manufacturing systems such as PAS‑X, SAP, or Delta‑V. Experience interacting with regulatory auditors during area tours or topic discussions. Lean Six Sigma certification. Employment Details Shift Schedule: 2‑3‑3 rotation x 12.5‑hour shifts (6:00AM–6:30PM or 6:00PM–6:30AM), 4‑day x 10.5‑hour shifts, or 5‑day x 8.5‑hour shift schedule. The schedule includes alternating weekends, holidays, and full site shutdowns. Benefits: Salary range $106,200 – $167,200. Eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentive.
