Yard and Materials Manager

The Yard and Materials Manager oversees all daily operations of the project laydown yard and material staging areas, ensuring that electrical construction materials are accurately received, organized, tracked, and distributed to support project schedules. This role manages inventory control, coordinates closely with project and field teams, and maintains a safe, clean, and compliant yard environment through the duration of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the project laydown yard and material staging areas to ensure efficient material flow.
  • Receive, inspect, document, and inventory incoming electrical materials and equipment upon arrival.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using spreadsheets, inventory management software, or project tracking systems.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and distributions in collaboration with project management and field supervision to support construction schedules.
  • Track and organize cable reels, conduit, switchgear components, transformers, panels, wire, fittings, termination kits, and other electrical materials.
  • Ensure all materials are stored safely and protected from damage, weather, theft, and loss.
  • Perform routine inventory audits and reconcile material quantities to identify discrepancies and maintain accurate counts.
  • Coordinate loading, unloading, and movement of materials using forklifts, telehandlers, and other material handling equipment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and promptly notify project leadership of shortages, damaged materials, or long-lead procurement concerns.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant yard operations at all times.
  • Work closely with purchasing, project managers, superintendents, and field foremen to align material availability with project timelines.
  • Generate receiving reports, inventory reports, and material usage documentation for project stakeholders.
  • Read and interpret material lists, packing slips, bills of lading, and construction drawings to verify and plan material needs.
  • Supervise and collaborate with a logistics coordinator working alongside you in the yard operations.
  • Support a fast-paced construction environment by responding quickly to changing material needs and priorities.
  • Commit to working through March 2027 to provide consistent oversight of yard and material operations.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing construction materials, warehouse operations, or laydown yard activities.
  • Experience supporting electrical, industrial, power, manufacturing, data center, or large commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction materials and equipment, including cable reels, conduit, switchgear, transformers, panels, wire, fittings, and termination kits.
  • Proven experience in inventory control and material tracking within the construction or materials space, ideally in electrical construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret material lists, packing slips, bills of lading, and construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic computer systems for tracking and reporting inventory.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and a well-ordered yard.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with purchasing, project managers, superintendents, field foremen, and logistics staff.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability and commitment to work continuously through March 2027 without extended absence.
  • Knowledge of safe material handling practices and OSHA-compliant yard operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with inventory management or material tracking systems beyond basic spreadsheets.
  • Experience operating or coordinating work involving forklifts, telehandlers, and other material handling equipment.
  • Previous responsibility for generating receiving reports, inventory reports, and material usage documentation.
  • Experience supervising or working closely with logistics or warehouse support staff.

Work Environment

This position is based in an outdoor construction laydown yard and material staging area, where you will work around active construction activities and heavy equipment. You will regularly coordinate the loading, unloading, and movement of materials using forklifts, telehandlers, and other material handling equipment. Work is hands-on and physically present on site, often in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and varying weather conditions. Safety and OSHA compliance are central to daily operations, and the yard must remain clean, organized, and secure at all times.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Brownsville, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
