Job Description / Essential Elements:


Lead Maintenance Worker, under direction of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation, performs a wide variety of specialized and responsible tasks relating to the Skilled Maintenance, Construction, and Repair Work on School Buildings, Operations including electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating, and building maintenance, and Grounds. May serve as Second-In-Command within Operations and Grounds as needed; in absence of M/O/T Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION

May include, but not limited to:

1. Perform a wide variety of specialized maintenance service tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate
2. Examine school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance
3. Develop and recommend priorities, completion of regular on-going duties, minor and major repairs on repair projects
4. Estimate cost of repair projects in terms of labor, materials, and overhead
5. Develop and maintain a system for dealing with emergency repair problems and efficiency
6. Coordinate the purchase, inventory and use of supplies, tools, equipment, and materials for the Maintenance and Grounds Department
7. Coordinate vacation and summer work schedules of Maintenance and Operations personnel as necessary
8. Plan, organize and conduct orientation and in-service training programs for Maintenance and Grounds personnel
9. Conduct site inspections and reports damage, vandalism and needed maintenance
10. Prepare reports on costs of work done, materials used, and labor expended
11. Assist in the development and maintenance of a regular District preventive maintenance program
12. Determine when projects or repairs will be performed by outside contractor
13. Provide direction to Maintenance /Grounds personnel as necessary
14. Supervise the erection of scaffolding, formation of concrete forms and similar non-structural projects, depending upon repairs and construction
15. Assume primary responsibility for safe conditioning of lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, fixtures, wiring, air conditioning and refrigeration units, and similar electrical elements in the facilities owned or operated by the District
16. Interpret and work from blueprints when necessary, Install, service, inspect for safe operation and repair varied heating air conditioning, energy management systems, stoves and refrigerators
17. Install and maintain a variety of high and low voltage circuits (e.g. fire alarm systems, site classroom, clocks, master clocks, bells, panel boards, lighting systems, motor circuits, electrical heating systems and control switches)
18. Perform related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Application of:
District policies and procedures as they apply; Methods and practices of maintenance, construction, electricity, plumbing, tool and equipment management; Operation of tools and equipment used in all phases of school maintenance; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Supervisory training and management techniques; Basic knowledge of construction, plumbing, electricity, air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and general equipment repair; Knowledge of and ability to use electrical testing equipment. Principles of supervision training and management, strategies of management, personnel practices; basic safety practices regarding equipment.

• Work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations
• Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
• Ability to perform tasks associated with prolonged periods of heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects or materials (great physical demand for strength and endurance); May require heavy physical effort such as lifting over 50 pounds on continuous basis, physical functions involving heavy physical exertion; lifting over 50 lbs or carrying any object over 25 lbs.

Education / Experience:

High school diploma or GED required

Two years of journeyman level Lead or Supervisory experience and four years of journeyman level building maintenance repair

Possession of a valid California Drivers License

Possession of valid HVAC certification desirable; additional training and/or certification as applicable to duties and responsibilities.

Salary Level: 75 - Classified Salary Schedule
